Windows 7, Realband 2010.5 (don't hurt me!)

My .seq file has five user-recorded/captured (not BB-generated) MIDI tracks. Each track is designated type-1 MIDI and is on a separate channel. When I save a track to file (TRACK -> SAVE TRACK TO FILE...) as type-1 MIDI and then import that track elsewhere (for example, Synthfont for rendering), the track always imports with, for lack of a better term, stuff that shouldn't be there.

For example ...
I saved the bass track.
I opened Synthfont and opened the saved bass track. Synthfont says the file contains this info ...
- Tr #1 - "Untitled song"
- Tr #2 - Instrument aa, 3 EVENTS ...
MIDI PORT = 0
SEQUENCER-SPECIFIC =
TRACK NAME = aa
- Tr #3 - Bass, 793 EVENTS, started with the same three as for Tr #2, then all the notes and other controls
- Tr #4 - #6, same as Tr #2 but for instruments bb, cc, and dd.

Why is that there? Where do I quash it in Realband?

Thanks.

What happens if you open the "Saved Track" into RB as a new file?? Is there unexpected additional Midi Data???

Yes, bringing the saved track back into RB results in several apparent tracks, all but one of which is empty. BTW, if, before I save the track, I remove all unwanted tracks from the SEQ arrangement, ... no surprise ... the track contains only the one chunk of material I want.

As a suggestion, try to "Copy" the Midi Track to Clipboard and "Paste" to Synthfont. This is likely to be free of the extra data but this will depend on the destination program.

Well, yes, I can remove the empty tracks myself, but the question remains ... why doesn't RB save *only* the single track data?

Type 1 MIDI contains multiple tracks .. try saving as type 0

I'm using RB 2014 and there's been lots of changes. When I tried to save a midi track it only lets me save it as a .SEQ file. There's no option to save it as midi. But, the file itself is already a .mid file. Try using "save as" and saving the whole project as a .mid file and then copy one track to the clipboard.

FYI, 2914 has the Drag and Drop function. This creates a little box that allows you to D&D any track to another DAW and I suspect that would do what you want. Maybe time to upgrade.

If you save it as type 1 it saves as a multitrack file.
When a type 1 file is opened in a lot of software/hardware it will default to opening to multiple tracks, and if multiple tracks don't exist, it may ask if you want to (or it may just do it) separate any MIDI channel data to it's own respective track. MIDI channel 1 on track 1 etc.

What you are not telling us in your original example if the multiple tracks contain multiple or separate MIDI channels.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
