I've finally finished Britannia Rag. I had a lot of trouble with this one; my only resource was a crackly YouTube video to learn it from, so there's quite a few notes that are incorrect.

Please click here

Any comments, as always, will be appreciated. Thank for listening

I enjoyed that Keith. I couldn't tell which notes were wrong and I seriously doubt if anyone else could either.

Excellent per usual.

Very clever and nice composition, Keith. I really love ragtime, too. I didn't hear any "wrong" notes either. Have you every heard Miles Davis' famous quote: "Mistakes? There are none." I was surprised to discover what people don't hear. I made a blooper in a tune that almost caused me to miss some following notes as I said to myself, "S__t!" I asked a couple of very good brass players about it and they had not even heard it. Just keep on keeping on. When I was playing your piece, my wife, a piano player, came running into the room just to listen; She likes it, too.

Thank you for listening Don & Stan. I appreciate your kind comments.
I guess the notes aren't really "wrong'...just "misplaced"
Stan, I'm glad your wife came running INTO the room instead of OUT of the room!!!!

Keith, thanks that woke me up this morning!
I didn't spot any wrong-uns, but then I'm a guitarist and if we hit any we just play 'em again straight away ("er, I meant that...") or call them 'jazzers'!
Winnie would have loved it.
Nice work.

Thank you for the kind words, John. Winnie was my first piano hero; my parents had a few scratchy old 78s of hers, and I played them over & over. She was fantastic.

I was fortunate enough to see her live in the late 1960s, when my Mum snuck me into a concert of hers. Fantastic.

Great work Keith! I doubt if anyone could pick up on a 'different phrase'. A great listen. Incidentally......I'm ALWAYS 'adapting' in my solos! Regards, Joe G.

Keith that was fantastic!

Wrong or misplaced notes? Where? I didn’t hear any!

This is a keeper.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Keith,
Wonderful rendition. I've never heard the original, but this is pro grade all the way. I couldn't hear any wrong notes either, but then we know what mistakes, or wrong stuff we did, but others never hear them.

I am impressed by your skills on the piano. I only wish that I had practiced when I was a child, and kept at it over the years. You are an excellent musician, sir, and this is an excellent piece.

I went back and found the YouTube video of her playing that song, and then I was looking at some of the other videos available of her, and she was quite a talented piano player, I am duly impressed with her, and impressed with you that you could take that song and transcribe it by ear to come out with what you did.

Bravo!

Gary

I'm blessed watching God do what He does best. I've had a few rough years, and I'm still not back to where I want to be, but I'm on the way and things are looking far better now than what they were!

Martin, Joe, Mario - Thank you all for your kind comments and encouragement. I was probably a little paranoid about trying to replicate the original note for note. Perhaps I should call it “my rendition” or "my interpretation”. That can cover a multitude of sins.

Mick – ya got me…. I went to the link. April Fool!!

Gary - thank you – she was an amazing lady. If you get a chance, have a look at her page on Wikapedia. It’s an interesting read.

very nicely done, keith. i think we often have a heightened awareness of our own 'klunkers' but others don't even notice them. i really enjoyed it as i do all of your tunes. your piano style reminds me a lot of del (Adelaide) wood (qv) on grand ole opry when i was but a wee bit of a bucko. and that, sir, is a grand compliment indeed. more please.

Thank you Don. I didn't think I'd ever heard of Del Wood, but I just had a look through my CD collection and found a track of her playing "Down Yonder" from a bargain box country CD set that I bought a few years ago.
Your comparsion is humbling. Thank you.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
