Hey all,

First time poster!

Often if I'm working on a song, and it goes through some cutting and pasting, I find the bass eventually gets near the end and then it won't play any of the typed in chords. It just stays on one. To get around it, I usually have to re-type in the whole song. Cutting, pasting etc to try to overwrite the stuck note does not work. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Well that ain't right. Could be a couple of things.

1) Are you regenerating after any changes? Can't just hit play, you have to regenerate.

2) Are you exceeding the number of bars which is displayed in the Start / End / Choruses boxes.

Todd12,

Welcome to the forum! I've found that once I layout the basic song structure that the more I modify the more confused BiaB becomes. I have a three step approach to minimize this issue; save often, rename the song file and close BiaB then open a new BiaB session.

There are a lot of things for BiaB and Windows to keep track of during song modifications. My thought is file corruption occurs and it gets progressively more severe as you use the file. Saving often saves your choices and resets a bunch of pointers. Renaming the song file closes out the pointers for this version of the song and opens a new set of pointers. Closing and opening BiaB cycles all the program pointers.

If you try and don't use a bunch of things instead of having to start new, you can abandon the song and begin anew with an earlier version.

Good advice above. More questions:

3) might you have frozen the bass track? If so, unfreeze it. Then you will hear the changes. If you don't know what I mean by freezing a track, write back.

4) could you have exceeded a total of 255 measures? That's the limit in BIAB (no such limit in RealBand, though).

And welcome to the forum.

Thanks to each of you for your suggestions! I will try all of them and report back.

Some of the "confusion" issues you spoke about sound a lot like whats going on so I will try to keep it organized.

Not sure I understand "freezing" the track, but I guess if I extend the song it I need to unfreeze it first.

I have to look for a regenerate button! I had no idea, the program seemed to redo the realtracks each time on it's own.

Thank you very much!

Yes! If you're not sure, do a Right-click on the Master radio button (third row down, upper left) and select Unfreeze All Tracks.

Assuming you have version 2014 of BIAB, there are two buttons (icons) next to each other, "Play" and "Generate/Play". The program automatically makes the Play button regenerate the song IF you made any changes in it, unless all the tracks are frozen, but it's a good habit to understand the difference. Play really means, replay the song without regenerating anything.

If you do not have BIAB 2014, but have an earlier version, which one?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
