Hello all,

I recorded a melody in 6/8 time. Even when I play along with the metronome, the recorded notes are all over the place and I can't see which notes belong to what hand. Is there a setting that allows me to see the notes played by RH/LH separately? Thanks Dai

In the Notation window click Options
There are checkboxes for where to split the notation on the clef and also one to use channels 8/9 for the L/R hands.

Copy the track, rechannel one part (using the Data Filter checkbox along the way)
The ude the data filter again to rechannel the other part.

.. or record them on separate channels to begin with.

If they are not in time, are you using 6/8 time signature (with correct tempo) when recording?

Thank you and I will try that tonight. If I record in 6/8 time but without metronome because I do not want the song to sound mechanical, it is still possible to have an acceptable readable score? This is purely piano solo piece. Dai

To do that, I would use a couple steps.

Set time signature to 6/8.
Record the track.
Open the ACW and tell it you want to use the current file and to create the Tempo Map (it defaults to not changing the tempo map during the popups so pay attention as it opens)

Use the ACW to set the Tempo. Do this by playing the song and tapping the F8 key on the 1st beat of every measure; you'll see the measure lines adjust.

Once 'close enough' with the tempo map click Send to PT (or RB or BiaB).
Now check the notation.
If needed copy the track to another blank track and quantize that track (Edit-Quantize)
This brings the notes closer to the nearest beat (or 1/4 or 1/8 or 1/16 or 1/32 depending on settings).
Check Notation again.

Using Quantize on a copied track and viewing the notation for that track (but listening to your original) may 'correct' the notation timing without affecting the actual performance on what you already have recorded.
But if you intend to wander with the tempo it's better to set the tempo map later using the ACW and then go from there. I do this on 'live' recordings when I want to add Realtracks and I need a tempo map.

Greetings,

I have hard time understanding what needs to be done as I am very extremely new in this. After I record a measure, I click the option of "split the piano track into LH/RH" but after doing so, channels 8/9 have no data in them at all. Can you please tell me what I did wrong here? Thanks Dai

When you click the option to Split them, a pop up window occurs. Make sure you have the section of the track selected that you want to split. It may be defaulting to 1-1-0 thru 1-1-0 (which means nothing selected).

That has caught me before. As long as an area is selected it works here.

Hi Rharv,

It is set from 1-1-0 through 1000-1-0 and nothing is seen on tracks 8/9 after splitting. Anything else you could think of? Dai

They won't be on 'Tracks' 8/9 .. they'll be on 'Channel' 8/9 but still on the same Track.
The data will still be on the same track, but on different channels.

If you want them split to Tracks 8/9 you'll need to do one more step;
Click 'Edit - Extract Channels to Tracks'.
This is now 'Edit-MIDI-Extract Channels to Tracks' in the new 2015 version.

This makes the data from the selected original track (that you just split to MIDI channels 8/9) go to the track that matches the channel, so Track 8 will have channel 8 and track 9 will have channel 9.

If you want to assign the new MIDI channels to other than Track 8 and 9 just put a check in the box for 'Data Filter' in the pop up. Then you can assign any MIDI channel to any Track.

Thank you! I will look into that tonight. The reason I want to separate the notes is because that will make easier for me to edit the left hand notes without the right hand notes all over the place. I have the PTA 2013 so it is time to update. Thanks again and I will let you know of the results. Dai

You say 2015 version is available? I only see 2014. Thanks Dai

Sorry, it will be a few weeks yet before it is out.

I was referencing the new menu change in Realband (they are so similar and I assume the menu changes will also be in the new PT, but maybe not)

PT2015 will be out shortly though. Probably worth holding out for.

PowerTracks 2015 is not yet available; however, RealBand 2015 is. I suspect when PowerTracks 2015 comes out, it will have the new menu structure that RealBand 2015 does.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
