My Tascam has some technical issues and I am looking toward the Focusrite on the advice of a guy I know who if very familiar with the hardware and knows good from bad. H recommends is highly and I will likely take his suggestion. Who uses one of these? Setup easy? Performance issues at all?

Hope to get a quick answer as I watch eBay..... LOL!

I have a focusrite scarlett 2i2

I used it for quite a while on a windows 7 machine w/BIAB/RB and never had any problems with it. Later I bought a windows 8 laptop for gigs, and I started having a problem with it. It manifests as really distorted (almost unrecognizably distorted, in fact) when I first boot up a new session. I have to go into my audio settings and change to something else, then change back to the scarlett before it will work.

It will also work if I unplug it, then plug it back in. Since it didn't have that problem on the previous computer, I attribute the problem to the laptop, not the focusrite. I have reinstalled the latest driver for windows 8 and it didn't fix the problem. The laptop is a Dell.

My experience may be unique.. I haven't seen anything about it in product reviews. The Focusrite line consistently gets good reviews.

There a ton of focusrite guys here, Pat, Herb (guitarhacker) and many more you will get good results there. I use a Presonus 1818VSL unit and love it. I think any of the top brands work. I had a tascam like you, but they discontinued development on win7 for it's drivers. So i moved on. I love the VSL mixer window in presonus, and think it really does a great job of tailoring the setup. I also love that you get Studio one artist with it. Seems the upgrade path with Studio one is priced better than Sonar is, and so a couple years back i went that route, and am very happy with the results.

Lenovo Win 10 16 gig ram, Mac mini with 16 gig of ram, BiaB 2022, Realband, Harrison Mixbus 32c version 9.1324, Melodyne 5 editor, Presonus Audiobox 1818VSL, Presonus control app, Komplete 49 key controller.

The Tascam is just not working out. It works find in mic input 1 but when I try to record through the 1/4" inputs I hear sound coming from the monitors but nothing records. I tested it using a direct box connected to mic input 1 and the keyboard recorded. Back to the channel 9 1/4" input and nothing. The same for input 10. In fact, mic input 2 will only record if the track is set to stereo. Rather than get gray hair over it, I just ordered the Focusrite 2i4. I'll get it Tuesday. Just in time to stay busy and not dwell on how much it sucks to be unattached on Christmas. The last few years I spent Christmas night with someone dear to me but we have recently parted ways and that's not an option this year. So I'll record instead.... LOL!

Have had a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 for just under a year, after moving from a TASCAM US800 due to the fact that the TASCAM drivers were guilty of a memory leak (use the unit for about 45 min. and watch your entire project disappear). TASCAM is of the devil, if you ask me! The one thing it did have was nice and quiet mic pre-amps with plenty of gain before really noisy output.

I got a great deal on mine from Sonic Sense out of Denver.

It's worked without any hiccups or flaws, and I've even managed to figure out the mixer application, which had me confused when I tried out a Focusrite firewire device a couple years ago. It's actually really cool if you have a multi-monitor setup.

Hi, Eddie !

I have used a focusrite 2i2 for quite a time already
and have never experienced any kind of problems with it !
Mostly I´ve used it for recording my ovation semi elec guitar
thru the USB port to mixcraft 6 (DAW) on my laptop (lenovo T500) !

Cheers
Dani

6i6 here. You'll like the Mix Control software that comes with it.

I had a focusrite Scarlett and really liked it, I needed more inputs so upgraded to the Liquid 56. I found that the 'sound' of the silence in the scarlet was far warmer that the 56 which is clean but like an operating theatre

The mix control software is very powerful, but also can be confusing on the 56, at least it confuses me (easily done) . At one point the MIDI on my 56 was not working, they said they were working on it, but I jumped ship and now use MIDI to USB instead, not sure if they have addressed this. The 56 is firewire, which is old tech, The firewire ports can blow (on my Asus Mobo) but I got around this with a firewire card.

Hope you find someone for next Xmas smile

All their stuff is quality.

Focusrite is quality gear. I have the Saffire interface that's firewire.... if and when it dies, I will be replacing it with another Focusrite interface.

They have pristine preamps for the audio.... loaded with quality features...I don't thing you can go wrong with Focusrite.

I love mine.

I'm having no end of difficulty with my Tascam FW-1884 and new operating systems, so I picked up a Focusrite Scarlett 616 as a quick bypass. I like it. The software mixer is much more friendly than that of E-mu or M-Audio, other similar units I've used.

In another DAW music forum, we've had a number of folks come in after having bought a Tascam. We worked with them to try to get it functional, however, many of them ended up taking it back and getting something that actually works like it's supposed to..... of course, a few did manage to get it to work well enough to use it.

Same here Dan, my MOTU is rock solid...has never let me down. But with all of these +1's for Focusrite, I'm already looking over their site just in case mine does head south.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
