Hey Joanne.

Loved it. Especially the line - "And all of your colours, go right out the door" Splendid piece of writing.

I can never get waltz time to work, so I'm full of admiration for how well this flows.

Wonderful vocals and harmony - probably the best I've heard you do.

All in all, a great song.

ROG.

Nice work Joanne. Good mix the vocals seem to sit on the mix properly.

Hi Joanne,

Another great song and sung with such conviction. I could tell you meant it!
I can also see what R & AM mean about the Joan Baez sound.

The vocals and harmonies were all perfect. Was this done with the vocals recorded separately which I think you mentioned on a previous track? Either way they are so good.

Congratulations.

Hi Eric. Nice to hear from you and thanks.

ROG. You made my day. Thank you so much. The waltz was a challenge. If you ever feel like doing a remix of this song give me a pm. Your productions are always so amazing.

Robh. Thank you. I am concentrating on mixing my vocals better so that is great to hear.

Rob and Ann Marie – Love the Joan Baez reference. She is such an inspiration. Have just purchased her 2008 album “Day After Tomorrow” which I am enjoying immensely.

Hi Rec. The vocals and harmonies were all recorded against a basic track of drums, bass and a rhythm guitar in Realband. I record three takes of the lead vocal first. Then I pick one and generate two harmonies. One high and one low. I then play through and sing along with each a few times and when I have “learned” the harmonies I record four harmony tracks all the way through (two high and two low), using the generated tracks as a guide. I then turn off all the backing and mix the vocal without any backing at all. I have started applying a chorus effect to one of the other lead vocal tracks (one that I don’t end up using as my lead) to double words or phrases that need emphasis. I then choose bits of the harmony tracks that work well and mix those in, panning the two high harmonies hard left and right and panning the low harmonies left and right. I also apply eq to the harmony and lead tracks to separate them from each other. I then bounce the mixed vocal to a wave file and import that back into a fresh Realband file where I will apply reverb and dynamics to the mixed vocal track and then choose and mix in the instruments. I bounce the fully mixed tracks down to a wav file and I apply Ozone to that wav file (nearly always a country pop preset). Hope this helps.

Josie you are country, pop and folk all rolled into one. You can sing it all!

Your vocal and mix are the best that you have done IMHO.

This took me back to the 60's coffeehouses. I also could hear Joan Baez singing this one.

Great job on this one!

Thanks Josie for the detailed explanation. Very interesting and the results prove that it's well worth the effort.

You wanted us to throw some mud... but you haven't given us much to aim for!

I' only curious what you used for the midi string sound (which to me sounded better than anything I've been able to produce) and how you record that sound, if you're willing to share?

Hi Icelander. If course always happy to share. What I normally do with the strings is find a style in BIAB with some MIDI strings in that suit the track. I then save the generated midi file from inside BIAB and import it into Realband (where I mix my songs). I then apply a Dimension Pro instrument to the midi track in Realband. I think I usually use the "Full strings long and short bows" so I am sure that is what I would have used here. I then convert the midi track to an audio track so that I can mix the track in the song.

I have found that Realband is a bit funny with Dimension Pro. You can only assign one instrument and it "loses" its setting when you save and go out and then back in again. So it is easier to work with the audio rather than the midi.

Hope that makes sense, otherwise let me know...

It is an instruments library that you can use to assign to your midi tracks instead of general Midi. When I purchased from Cakewalk they had a special that you could buy the entire library for about $14 but I doubt that special is still available but it is definitely worth waiting till they have a special.

Very good...it requires me to also have some designated Cakewalk software, then?

No You don't need Cakewalk. It is a plugin you can use with BIAB or Realband or any other DAW that uses plugins

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
