Not familiar with the multichannel audio interfaces (more than 2 channels).
I have a Steinberg CI1 and a Behringer Xenix302USB, both 2 channel thru the USB. Thinking to buy a 4 (or perhaps more than 4)channel audio interface.
Is RealBand (and BIAB, maybe) able to work with more than 2 tracks?
(Sorry the ignorance, hehe)

Rob, do the 8 channels end up on 8 different tracks? Or does the presonus end up acting like a mixer that consolidate 8 different inputs to one stereo track?

My M-Audo interface will put 8 tracks either on 8 mono tracks or 4 stereo tracks. This depends on the drop down selection in Audio Prefs and whether the track being used is mono or stereo..
If I sync two of these cards together it doubles to 16 mono or 8 stereo.

RB will record as many as the interface and the system allow (up to the 48 track limit). It is designed to do just such things.

Recording drum kits with 6 or 8 mics is common for us.
Then we go back and track the guitars, bass and keyboards next run (usually another 7 ot 8 tracks), then vocals and solos on their own. Of course all this never happens in 3 takes, but we get the opportunity to capture lots of effort of guys playing together, and this seems to make a difference to the guys playing; they like playing with the band.. as opposed to doing their part separately. It saves time. As a studio guy I know a lot of that is because they are not going to solo/scrutinize their track. They listen to the mix. wink

Thanks RHarv. That's a good tip, I don't think I've used before.

An Arm to Record Button with Input Select on each track would make my day.

Yes it is a very good interface, and comes with a free artist version of Studio one A nice DAW.

Pat - 8 separate tracks. And actually, i have my Voiceworks connected to the S/PDIF inputs so i get 8 plus one stereo digital input.

Like all similar interfaces you can record 4 stereo or 8 mono tracks.

Yes i have tracks all 8 inputs into RB and it works quite well.

Yeah, it would be nice if some of the Pref settings were available in the GUI (in intuitive places).
We both know RB doesn't support selecting which track each input goes to (they just go to the next available track by default) but it would be nice if it did. Even if just to make space between tracks (keep guitars with guitars, drums with drums, etc). Sure it can be done later pretty easily, but its one of my many wishlist items also.

Thanks, friends, for the good info.
I'll put an 8 tracks interface in my wishlist.
The Presonus VSL 1818, or the Behringer FCA 1616...
There is the ICON Umix1008 Satellite option, that is cheap here, but lacks the ADAT I/O interface, has only the SPIDF I/O. That can be a great disaventage in the future (expansion), do you agree?
Any other sugestions?
Easter gift, maybe smile

I use SPDIF more than ADAT, but your needs may be different. For me that wouldn't be the deciding factor. I'd focus more on preamps, driver flexibility/routing and stability, unless you really need the ADAT.

But, is SPIDF able to handle more than 2 channels? Not skilled in these things, but I think ADAT is able to handle 8 tracks and SPIDF only 2.
Am I wrong?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
