Here are the list of bugs I found using PTPA in Windows 7 so far:

Let's assume I know what I'm doing since I've been sequencing since 1990 using Cakewalk 3.0 and I've been a professional reseller (of PG music programs too) since 1988. This is a show I run audio, video, lasers, lights, effects, etc. seamlessly with Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 and it still runs flawlessly to this day in XP. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivqv0iFO_Aw

1. When you open a drop down window e.g. "Copy" ...50% of the time if you click on a button, it will click on anything BEHIND the window (often opening up the Audio or staff view). You have to open the window, MOVE it using the top bar, and THEN you can press the buttons.

2. If you edit the volume of an audio track it will remember it upon saving and closing. If you change the db level, it will not remember it after saving and closing.

3. in Jukebox, when you double click on a song, sometimes it will click on to something BEHIND the jukebox, opening up Staff or Audio view etc. ...very embarrassing during a live gig.

4. When importing audio to new tracks, sometimes it will import it to a previously made midi track instead of the track selected, rendering the midi track as an audio track and this cannot be undone. The song is ruined and you lose all the data on that track.

5. When recording midi data on a midi track, it incessantly asks you if you would like to save audio data it recorded on another track. Was I recording on an audio track???

I've been using Powertracks for over fifteen years, upgrading to each new version and using OS from Win 95 through to 8.1 and I've never seen any of these bugs. It would help to know which version of PT you're using.

Let's take your number (5) first as being the easiest to understand. There's a check box in AUDIO PREFS for-
ALWAYS RECORD AUDIO TOO IF TRACK IS MIDI.
Un-checking the box will solve that problem.

Ok, now number (4). I simply can't duplicate this. Even if I deliberately try to load audio onto an existing MIDI track I get a warning box and the import is not permitted.

Number (2) Can you provide more details of the procedure which you're using to edit edit db? Not sure exactly how you're doing this.

Perhaps someone else can help with numbers (1) and (3).

ROG.

#1 and #3 - (in an experience I had that was mentioned previously in another thread) may involve a hardware issue.

It's possible that RB is reading you mouse click as 2 clicks.

You think you click OK on something, but your mouse sends (or gets read as) a double click.
The first click causes the OK to be triggered, which makes it instantly disappear .. and then your second click is read as clicking on what was behind the 'OK' window. And meanwhile, a pop up window had launched with a question .. which now resides behind the window that has focus.

I have seen changing the mouse fix this. The mouse didn't behave this way in other programs that I noticed, but in Win7, one mouse did .. and support told me they think that may be the issue, so it's possible they may also have seen this before.

I must agree I have never seen issue #4 and issue 5 solution is mentioned by ROG; a simple check box.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

#1 is also an issue on my Vista system. I don't recall this being an issue before PT2014 (redesigned GUI).

Thanks ROG,

I'm learning to anticipate the problems in PTPA2014 in Windows 7 Home, and a big thanks about the recording audio fix (my bad).

Yeah, I've installed, re-installed, clicked slow, fast, ...and sometimes it's as if the buttons are not there. It just clicks on whatever is behind. I have no other programs that have this issue.

Still working around the other issues too. Such a shame, this is such a great program. I'm going to install it in my XP machines and see if that's better.

Thanks again!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
