Hi All,

I haven't posted for a long time so here is one I wrote last week.

I recently purchased Pro Tools 11 so I tried to mix with this program.

Wrote song in BIAB, took into Realband then into Pro Tools (wasn't able to use VST plugins as Pro Tools 11 uses AAX plugins)

Let me know how the mix sounds so I can learn.

LYRICS

You misled me
You misused me
Told me you loved me so
My love for you
It grew and grew
You broke my heart in two
Baby I don't want yah
Baby I don't need yah
Baby you should go away
Leave me alone
Don't even phone
I don't want you to stay

You went to him lived with him
Never returned my calls
You ignored me
Turned your back on me
I never foreseen my fall
I loved you more than ever
But you never replied
Went on with your own life
Baby I thought I'd die

But life is so funny
Gave you my money
So that you could live in peace
Instead it gave me
A little sanity
The pain started to cease
Life's getting better
The sunnier the weather
Boy it looks so fine
I never imagined
How my life would be
Now this new girl is mine

You went to him lived with him
Never returned my calls
You ignored me
Turned your back on me
I never foreseen my fall
I loved you more than ever
But you never replied
Went on with your own life
Baby I thought I'd die

Instrumental

Life's getting better
The sunnier the weather
Boy it looks so fine
I never imagined
How my life would be
Now this new girl is mine

You went to him lived with him
Never returned my calls
You ignored me
Turned your back on me
I never foreseen my fall
I loved you more than ever
But you never replied
Went on with your own life
Baby my tears are dry

Best regards
George

George,

Good to hear you again. This has a real nice Roy Orbison vibe.

I would place the vocal right in the middle to blend better - this version leans a bit too much to the left.

Thanks for your insight Bob, I am using Pro Tools to mix and have not got past the newbie stage.
I will amend the vocal as you suggest.

George

George,

Good to see you back around....

I like the production on this. Having the vocal panned all to one side, however, makes it difficult to really get a sense of the song. The reverb is a little heavy, but with the vocal centered, it might be just the thing... The lead guitar could come up a bit, too...

You mentioned to Bob that you might remix this, so I'll look for that...

Floyd,

Thanks for the advice.
I am using Pro Tools to mix and as it is a new DAW for me I am just learning about mixing with it.
I will take the advice given and move the vocals and up the lead guitar.

Regards
George

Hi George,
I agree that your voice needs to be center stage! It carries the song, every reason to be in the middle. I'm wondering if you can get Pro Tools to release more dynamics in the end mix.

But... This is a great song! Roy Orbison vocals (now here's a compliment) and good band (iab☺)

See you around

I agree with all of the above -- it is a nice song
and well delivered. I think putting the vocal
dead center, as mentioned, and perhaps a little
more pan on the instruments would really open
things up. It is definitely deserving of the effort.

Enjoyed it.

Good job of fixin' that, George. Sounds good. The processing on the vocal works nicely, now that it's sitting where it should. Cool, big sound on that.

Well done.

Hi George. Welcome back. I didn't hear the first version but this one sound good. Good luck with the new daw. It can be very frustrating trying to learn something new.

Thank you all for your comments.

Learned a little more on Pro Tools 11, just need to use glue to make it stick. smile

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
