Here's a song I wrote in the 1980's and did a recording of back in 2010 when I first got BIAB. I never liked the recording from 2010... I had originally written the song in the key of (C) and that was just too darn high for me, not to mention I tried to throw everything but the kitchen sink into that first recording! crazy

I'd like to think I've learned a little in the last 5 years when it comes to recording, not to mention I have my new recording toys cool... Sooo I decided to give this song another try. I've lowered the key a step and a half to a more reasonable one (A) and tried not to put every RT there is in it. grin I sped it up a little bit and tried to sing in tune this time! wink

The original recording is down the list on my web page if you wanna compare. eek If you don't that's OK too. sick

All RT's (listed below) except where my Martin (Dean) makes an appearance for the guitar solo and of course I'm doing all the vocals.

As always all comments welcome.

Hope you enjoy,

Greg

2 Drum tracks. I think they are both Nashville Country Train: one is brushes which are pretty dry and in the background and another with sticks that's up front with FX.
Bass Elec RT 379
Banjo RT 589
Fiddle Rhythm RT 593
Fiddle Solo RT 2008
Guitar Acou RT 378
Guitar Acou RT 598
Mandolin RT 599
Piano RT 1166 (I'm anxious to hear Floyd's opinion on my piano mix when it comes in on the 2nd verse)

Very nice song and good mix! The fiddle really jams. Vocal is very well performed and processed. Excellent track all around! Take care. Greg

Really like the toe tapping intro, sets the mood perfectly for the song. The fiddle fills in so well.
Very nicely balanced throughout.
Thanks for sharing!

Greg, This does sound like Cali country rock. I love the whole deal. Very well sung-fiddle great- Dean is smokin hot! Nice solo. I thought the piano was a tad, just a tad loud. I love the overall feel. This is your best post to date. I am going back in for another listen. Tom

Hi Grey,
Good rhythm!
As I am typing I am listening to the old version.
You've matured in those five years. This new version is brighter, more laid-back, less stressful.
I see great progress.
I 've enjoyed this one (two smile )

I agree. Plus 1 from me. I'm enjoying all your recent posts and I think you do great on vocals and your acoustic guitar work. I'm already looking forward to your next post.

Greg,

This is your best ever, I'd say. NICE mix!

The fiddle is wedged in all the right places in all the right ways. You did the piano "right". The bass is pumpin'!

Your vocals and harmonies have power. Sweet acoustic lead!!!

I chose not to listen to the old one. This is done right...

Thanks Tom, Dean & I appreciate it. I worried the piano was a little loud, but I needed Floyd to hear it, wink and I kinda wanted it to be almost in your face.

Thanks Floyd I really appreciate it. Thrills me to have you say I got the piano "right"... if your gonna use it you might as well hear it! grin Thanks for the comment on my vocals too, I worked hard on that low harmony part!... The low harmonies don't come easy for me. mad

Gotta say you did a fine job in producing this version, Greg. It's definitely got a great feel to it. Kudos for getting the harmonies like you did; they sound great!

Greg,

like most of your songs this one has a great "live" feel to it. Dropping the key worked really well for your natural voice... nothing about this version sounds strained.

I like the instrument mix, and the way you phased sounds in and out of the mix.

The ending was very good... everything did what a real band would have done.

I really liked your personal contributions to the song (vocals and guitar solo... Did I detect some Marshall Tucker Band influence in the solo?)

I'm glad you took the time to resurrect it!

Very effective bluegrass backing for a
California country/rock song. Your
fine vocal and guitar nailed the feel.

Great mix. The soundscape sets
up nicely on my monitors.

We enjoyed the spin!!

Greg,

Nice song. I've gotta' admit I listened to the 2010 version to compare then and now. The original is not as bad as you hinted but, the key change did benefit your voice.

You have a good song library. I would hope to hear updated versions of more songs.

Can't wait to hear your next one.
