In its time I bought jBridge and downloaded a trial version of SampleTank 3 and in spite of watching “the jBridge with Band-in-a-Box 2015 for Windows” several times, I was so overwhelmed with finding my way around the Sample Tank interface, that I ran out of time trying it.
In the jBridge with Band-in-a-Box 2015 for Windows video they only demonstrate using it for a synth track.
However I would like to know if SampleTank 3 produces better and more sounds for traditional instruments, like trumpet (muted and open), trombone (muted and open), saxophone etc.??????
Hope to hear from someone “in the known”. Brgds, Tonnie
Now, whether or not these sounds are good enough for you is a different thing. Maybe you might think Kontakt, Halion or another big softsynth is better.
Sampletank is one of those synths that depends on the sounds you own or have available.
If you *have* those patches it may very well do fine at the sounds. However, the default (basic) sound sets may not include what you are looking for. Also it is customizable/expandable so the answer, even with known variables, is still subjective.
When you ask if it "produces better and more sounds" for your desired instruments it is a very hard question to answer. My Roland synth has (in my opinion) 'better and more' muted brass instrument sounds, but others may think Sampletank has better ones.
The thing to remember is Sampletank is only as good as the available library of sounds, and this depends on what you have downloaded for free or purchased. It can use a LOT of different samples. However you have to be able to make them available for it to use.
Make your sound your own! .. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome
You Write; "My Roland synth has ......", without telling what Rolland synth you are refering to. Could you please give me the type?
What I am looking for is e.g. more mute types for brass instruments (trp. & trb.) and more real sounding saxes, as I use BB a. o. for writing Big Band arrangements to accompany me in life performances, either playing guitar, or singing "Four Freshmen"-style using TG Helicon "Voice Works".
There are lots of audio clips on the IK site you can listen to for yourself. I like ST but you mention horns and IMHO it sux for brass. Listening to the clips for ST3, it doesn't sound like they've gotten much better since ST2.
Windows 10, Intel Core I5 10400, 16 gig ram, Scarlett 6i6, Komplete keyboard, Sony Acid Music Studio 11, BIAB 2020 UltraPlus Pak
I just bought the $99 SE yesterday. The website and video demos do not really get that granular (specific saxes etc.) in truth, I think I have many SoundFonts that are better than a lot (if not all) of their acoustic samples. NOTHING gets close to the Ketron modules (I have an SD4 and the SD1000.)
First, let me say; check out the Ketron for horns as mentioned above. Price/value is good.
As far as the 'my Roland' statement .. I didn't specify because I have a few.
The Fantom series has a wide variety and you can choose your flavor, including adding sample sets.
I guess my point was if you buy a synth with good horn sounds you'll be happier. ST is not a horn focused synth.
Check out Ketron, some better Roland synths, and maybe a few others before deciding. As 'go to' I often like Juno-G horn sounds, the video elow shows very simple use of only a few of the choices. It has many many separate sax/brass sounds, and you have to scroll ahead in the video to get to any of them. Roland Fantom models usually have these and more.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
