Unless the extra content (plugs, loops, soft synths etc) that come with this are changed so they only work in the host program, this is a no brainer at $19.99

1) the TTS-1 soft synth comes with it, and it's a GM synth, comparable to the cotote Forte, which sells for $30 by itself. Lots of people like the TTS-1 better.

If you don't already own Coyote forte and you're using the coyote wave table soft synth to render MIDI to audio, you'll see an improvement with the TTS-1

2) as I recall from previous versions, the product comes with a ton of loops and plugs

I have an older version of this that isn't currently installed. If somebody here buys this, please let me know if the plugs and soft synths still work in BIAB. If they do, I'll buy ver 7. If they don't, I may go back and reinstall the prev version just to get the extra stuff.

I can't find whether it's 32-bit, 64-bit, or both. It would be nice if it said so. The Cakewalk site only says Windows 7/8 as a requirement, which leads me to think it's 32-bit (which will run on both 32-bit Windows and 64-bit Windows), but I don't know.

For any of the add-ins (that aren't just loop files), you'll need 32-bit to work with BIAB.

For $19.99, I'll probably get it this evening. The site shows it as $49.99, but when I logged into my account, the shopping cart reduced it to $19.99. Don't know if that's a sale for everyone or the cost just for people upgrading (I am a registered user of both Music Creator 5 and 6).

It is EITHER 32 or 64 bit ...says so right on the website

http://www.cakewalk.com/Support/Knowledge-Base/2007013389/Music-Creator-7-System-Requirements

The thing I'm looking at before I get this is if it's compatible with XP pro 32 which is the OS I have. I sent an email this morning to ask support. THe same page says it doesn't support XP but that doesn't mean it won't work..... just that if you have issues, they will not help with the older OS's.

As far as the plugs and synths that come with this..... YES.... I had TTS from MC4 long before I loaded BB/RB into my computer. BB found TTS and I approved it to use for it's default synth. It is much better than the wavetable and if you just bought it for that... you got your money's worth.

Aside from all that.... Music Creator is a superb and easy to use full featured DAW that I used extensively with BB/RB tracks in the same way I now use Sonar 1e.

In addition to this.... you CAN use the Cakewalk plugins with BB tracks. I tested this by opening a song in BB and dropping a chorus into the guitar track in BB as it played.... yup... they were all there in the list.

Herb,

It will not work with XP. If it is like the MC6 Touch upgrade I downloaded, the executable file detects the operating system and stops if the OS is not valid. The FAQs indicate MC7 works with Win 7, 8 & 8.1. The FAQ states Win XP and Vista are not valid.

I noticed MC7 can use up to eight audio inputs so that's a big change. I'm also intrigued by the one knob control for grit, eq or reverb.

Herb - I'm not wanting to be obstinate, but I don't see it from the link you provided. It shows:

Quote:

The information in this article applies to: Music Creator 7

Minimum System Requirements:
OS: Windows 7 or 8.1 (32- or 64-bit)
Processor: 2.6GHz Intel or AMD multi-core processor
Memory: 4GB
Hard Drive: 500MB for minimal install, >5GB recommended
Monitor Resolution: 1280x800 minimum
Audio Interface: ASIO compatible hardware is recommended
MIDI Interface: Windows-compatible MIDI Controller or MIDI interface is recommended
Internet: connection required for downloads, activation, and publishing features

Touch is available in Windows 8 devices with touch support but is not required to use the program. All functions can be done with a mouse and/or keyboard.

Please note: Music Creator 7 does not support Windows 95, 98, ME, 2000, NT, XP, Vista or Windows RT. QuickTime support requires QuickTime 7 or higher. Music Creator 7 is presented as a download (5GB) and broadband connection is recommended.

I see where the Windows Operating System (OS) can be 32-bit or 64-bit (I highlighted it in bold above); but I don't see where the application itself is 32-bit and/or 64-bit.

With Sonar, you get a 32-bit installer and a 64-bit installer. Was curious as to what you got with Music Creator.

It installed via the 32 bit command center into the 64 bit program directory, so it looks as if it is either 32 or 64 depending on your host.

I decided to go ahead and buy it... for less than $20, it's an amazing deal... if nothing else, for the added content like loops and plugs. But apart from that, the new features also look compelling.

Really, I guess if you're entitled to the $19.95 price, chances are you already have access to all the loops and plugs from previous purchases which are re-downloadable from the cakewalk "my-account" site. Even if you don't still have it installed, you could re-DL and install the previous version to get the extra content. But it looks like there may be new loops if nothing else.

Speaking of loops, has anybody had luck in RealBand using loops in another directory besides the default \realtracks\loops\ directory?

Loops take up so much space, I hate to install duplicates... but any time I've tried browsing to another directory, the loop I select doesn't load.

I purchased it also and installed it via the command center, but haven't had a chance to run it yet. Unless someone else saw it, I saw no installation options other than "install". So I'll have to see if it kept previous settings from MC6 (and/or Sonar), or if I now have to move stuff off the C: drive to my D: drive, where I keep my audio content (loops, sound libraries, etc).

I have noticed that the samples are very high in volume - red lining, in fact. Strange.
