Hi folks
I've been playing around with music software for a while now and although I had heard about BIAB, never really explored it until recently. I must say I find its potential very exciting and have decided to give it a go. I'm currently running a Mac with Logic Pro, and my question is whether or not anyone has heard any rumours about release dates for BIAB 2015 for Mac? Guess it would be worth my while to wait if it's in the near future. The other question is whether or not anyone knows what sort of period of grace PG gives on purchases.
Thanks in advance
Cheers Phil

They have been known to allow a 30-day grace period, but since you don't know when (or if) the release will be, that doesn't really help much.

I'm a huge Brent Mason fan to begin with, but I have to say... after listening to the new RealTracks demos, just Wow !
The new baritone guitar tracks by him sound incredible !

Hopefully Mac BIAB 2015 wil be out soon, otherwise, does anybody know if I were to buy those new RealTracks would they work in BIAB 2014 for Mac without an update ?

I'm thinking probably not, but wasn't sure if just converting the new RealTracks to .m4a would be enough to somehow use them.

I'll be waiting to purchase the 2015 version for Mac but you better move quick because my cash flow is in significant decline, lol. If anyone gets a heads up on when the 2015 release will be available I would love to know. I'll be waiting in the meantime.

I believe the 2014 release came in May. I would assume a May/June release.

You can unpack the RealTracks installers convert the wma to m4a and use it on Mac.
BUT:
RealTracks Set 227 : Brent Mason - Baritone Guitar and More!

Note: This RealTracks Set requires Band-in-a-Box 2015 for Windows or higher.

There is a Baritone here: www.realband.org/guitars.html

Some of the other Brent Baritone are in the Extra Pak offer at the time of purchase,
that I did not realize as I was buying the Audiophile version and it always includes everything BUT not this time.
They are the N/A ones below:

The short answer is "No"
The slightly longer answer: The individual RT's are only sold in the format of .exe installers, for one thing. And even if you do somehow crack that nut to get to the actual files inside, then you'll have to know exactly what files go where, it's not just a bunch of sound files. Some things even get written into other files during the installation (hence the "this file requires this version")... the issues are just endless! And since most of all these new Rt's seem to "require" the latest WinSux version, it's a pretty safe bet it'll be that way for the Mac as well.

The good news is, it's always been worth the wait! cool

Good news: They've started beta testing - So it shouldn't be too long now laugh

That's the first I've heard of it. Really, I think they might want to at least set some boundaries around this. I don't expect a detailed release date where everybody's tapping their foot and looking at their watch. But OTOH, I think if somebody bought 2014 and then 2015 came out say, 32 days later and they had to do a full upgrade I think they'd be a little ticked. If they're getting that close, then just announcing that you can buy without worrying about a full price upgrade they'd generate some good will. I'd be OK with a charge to take into account the hard drive cost as long as it doesn't approach a full upgrade price.

And for those of us who have Windows and Mac and don't want to ditch one, it might be nice to have a bundle discount option.

PG Music would never take advantage of customers in this way. They're one of the best and most sincere companies that I've ever dealt with.

Just my two cents worth.

Noel

See insertion. I don't say you're wrong, but in any kind of a music forum you have to take the fanboy effect into account. One example, a guitar vendor who, according to most of the denizens on one board walks on water. Oh, he will absolutely work with you. He'd take care of you no matter what. First and only transaction I had with him he shipped what I considered a pretty unsatisfactory product. Even though his reputation was such that everyone insisted everything he shipped was extensively inspected and of indisputably higher quality than most. I was willing to see if I could address my issues via warranty, but my usual guitar tech was out of town for the Thanksgiving holiday. When I asked if I could extend the usual return period one day he not only refused, he did it in a pretty snarky, desultory fashion. So I sent it back, ate the shipping and made a mental note that it's not what they do for everyone else. It's what they do for *you*.

Till they put it in writing I'm going to hold off buying a copy. Again, that's not a critique. It's just being careful.

I own the Windows version. No issues at all. But then I haven't really had to rely on out of the ordinary good will or beyond all expectations customer service so it just means I like the product and wouldn't think twice about purchasing the Mac version as long as I knew I wasn't in the position of having to depend on a favor rather than a policy.

If they don't want to do that, it's absolutely their right. But usually when people don't offer those kinds of assurances, it's for a reason. Like it could be another 2-3 months and they don't want to give out that much extra use unless they get paid for it. And that's OK, it's their business, their software. I'll just make due with the Windows version in a VM until they get something out there.

Hi nemonster,

I appreciate your views and I completely understand that "Once bitten, twice shy" is a safe and good motto to live by. That being said, though, I stand by my earlier comments. PG Music is an exceptional company.

I note that you've made three posts since registering. I take that to mean that you don't frequent the forums a great deal. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that but if it is the case, you probably haven't seen the posts that I have.

On the BIAB Windows and the Off Topic forums, I've seen many, many instances where Dr Gannon and his company have demonstrated exceptionally good customer support and well beyond what most would consider 'excellent'.

If you ever get time to spend looking back through the various forums and topics, you'll come across a number of examples of the company's wholehearted commitment to their product and their customers.

All the best,
Noel

You don't have to log in to read. It seems to me that assuming that because someone doesn't feel compelled to comment profusely that they haven't been paying attention would be a premature judgement, and not necessarily warranted by any facts in evidence. If I were inclined to make similar generalizations, I might conclude that this somewhat flawed analysis had a direct relationship to the veracity of your assertions about PG Music. But since there is no obvious correlation between someone's jumping to conclusions and the business practices of a software vendor I do intend to hold off until I see more evidence one way or the other.

Answering questions is not in the same league as doing something that saves the customer money and costs you. Those are two different animals.

If you have a link where they obviously, and in public provided a similar upgrade courtesy or diversion from what would be considered normal policy feel free to point me there. I'm open minded on this. I don't have any evidence to consider them unethical, but OTOH I haven't seen or experienced anything that leads me to believe they walk on water either. They run a software business. Customer service always sits on the black side of the bottom line - it might butt up to the edge but it seldom crosses over for companies that last. And again, no issue with that. Just being cognizant of the realities.

Ain't buyin' till I see it in writin'.

nemonster,

If you're interested, here's link that gives a little broader insight into the type of company that PG Music is. These were awards, not prizes in a competition.

Noel

Didn't see anyone from PG Music in there. And even if they commented, not sure why it would be relevant to the discussion at hand?
