We Can't Get Time Back Once it's Past

There's this clock I brought in Townsville while cruising on the reef
A present for the old ones back at home
When wandering days were done the oceans setting sun
led me to their open arms a-gain

The clock sat by the bedside its tinny tones would sing
and welcome each new morning bright and clear
The years passed slow since Mum died and the Old Man cried in-side
Her raincoat hung for-ever by the door

Chorus
The clock reminds me that things change yet they stay the same
The fallen rise a-gain to get back in the game
Every-thing I gave them came back to me at last
But we can't get time back once it's past
We just can't get time back once it's past

------ instrumental chorus ---------

The years so long and awkward the clock has seen them all
It watches over me now that they're gone
Its ra-dio is quiet these days time heals us in so many ways
It still lights my night and greets the dawn

The clock reminds me that things change yet they stay the same
The fallen rise a-gain to get back in the game
Every-thing I gave them came back to me at last
But we can't get time back once it's past
No we can't get time back once its past
We just can't get time back once it's past

Hi Richard,

Nice bit of entertainment! The below verse appealed to me. I like how you personified time and became a bit more philosophical - both personification and philosophy can be very effective tools for verse development.

Quote:
The years so long and awkward the clock has seen them all
It watches over me now that they're gone
Its ra-dio is quiet these days time heals us in so many ways
It still lights my night and greets the dawn

That last line resonated with me "...still lights the night and greets the dawn."

I enjoyed it.

All the best,
Noel

Richard,

A thoughtful lyric - as most of yours are...
You pepper your lyric with memorable lines.
"Her raincoat hung forever by the door"
That is nice.

The backing works well - and is well mixed.
And you sing "like you mean it".

Well done.

Of all the posters in the User Forum, your work seems to carry us along on a journey about life that's told to us in song. It's therapeutic in the sense most of us can relate in our lives to something in each one of your songs. Enjoyed the song. Thanks for posting.

A fine job, Rich.

I totally agree with the sentiment of this tune.

It seems the older I get, the more I agree with it. grin

Thanks for the music,
Dan

Love lyrics and theme. The line that stuck with me was "Everything I gave
them came back to me at last" It's filled with so many possible but unstated meanings. I love the instrumental chorus - great fun - made me smile. --- Pete

Great lyrics, and like Floyd very accurately mentioned, you sing it like you mean it!

Some really good lines there, I particularly liked:
"The years so long and awkward the clock has seen them all"

Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Noel. Thanks for your comments. Glad you enjoyed the song. The clock came back to me in the old mans estate and I still use it. Woke up Feb 1st needing a song to start FAWM looked at the clock and took it from there. Cheers.

Hi Floyd. Thanks for the comments. That coat hung there in the porch so long it was falling to bits then one day I quietly dumped it. No one ever mentioned it. Cheers.

Hi Charlie. Thanks for the listen and comment. Don't have a clue what to write about usually. Should be able to write a song about anything at all I suppose. Cheers.

Thanks Dan. It's slipping away, slipping away. Cheers.

Thanks Guenter. That comment of Charlies means a lot to me. Glad you enjoyed the song. Cheers.

Thank you Greg. Lovely comments. Cheers.

Hi Rob. Glad you heard it and thanks for the supportive comments. Cheers.

Thanks Pete. Funny how little things I gave them over the years all ended up back here with me. Cheers.

Thanks Trevor. Glad you had a listen and glad you liked it. Cheers.

"Everything I gave them came back to me..." That is a wonderful line! Something one could only know if it happened to them.

Sweet song!

Thanks for the listen Laurence.
I don't know why but most everything I give anyone ends up back with me.
Puzzles me. Cheers.

For us this was a poetic take on the
importance of enjoying the moment.
Something I (Bud) have found elusive
but for which Janice is a master of.

This was a thought provoking and
enjoyable tune. Thank you.

Richard, I love that raincoat line. A really good idea to build the song around the clock. I liked this very much. An enjoyable listen. Tom

Really like that raincoat line. The song reminds me a little of Johnny Cash.

Nicely done. Enjoyed it.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
