Not wanting to hijack the thread in the wishlist, but Peter's comments got me thinking.

If I search for *.sty in the C:\bb\ folder (and below), I get 5,590 items. OK.

When I look at all styles in the BiaB Style Picker, I get 4,456 items (the same as Peter)

In the other thread, I wrote:
))) I get 5590 styles on disk (C:\bb\ and below), but 4456 in the Style Picker (I did select the Find New Styles button first)

Peter wrote:
Correct, because you're including sub folders of BB. Some styles are special cases and intended only for certain songs, and don't get put in the BB folder.

Clearly, I've got 1,134 styles (some in a sub folders perhaps?) of the C:\bb\ folder that BiaB doesn't count?

I understand that, no problems. They are special and are in sub-folders.

My problem now is, if I have 5,590 styles and I can search for any of them in the style picker, why does BiaB show that I only have 4,456 styles, when clearly I have many more?

_DIXIELD.STY is in the "C:\bb\Artist Performance Sets\Artist Performance Set 2 - Smooth Jazz, Gypsy and More" folder, not the c:\bb\ folder, but it can be searched for in the style picker (1, 2) and shows up (3), even though it's not one of the 4,456 styles.

The "All Styles [4,456]" count number is clearly incorrect/misleading? It should be 5,590 on my system?

Thanks anyone who can explain (!)

Peter said he had 4,849 - not quite the same as your count. I have no idea about the answer; just didn't want you to draw an incorrect conclusion as you search for it.

The key question in that other thread is, can the allowable count be raised again from 20,000 so however they are counted, it won't matter.

The styles in the BB folder are the ones that count. The ones that are in sub folders of the BB folder won't be found and are not intended to be found in the Stylepicker. As I mentioned in the other thread, there are some styles that we make as one off versions for a specific song, and they are put in the sub folder of BB.

You aren't missing anything by not having these styles listed in your stylepicker, as they are just usually small variations of what you already have.

Also the total number of styles that two people with the same version of BB are going to have when the program is new will be identical. But once the two versions have been used for a long time, with updates, re-installs, style maker sessions, downloading songs from friends etc etc. - that total will be different. So that's why my total is different to yours for example.

Have Fun!

If you look, you'll see some style files end with a plus symbol in the name, followed by the same named style with numbers after it. These are multi-styles and the StylePicker only shows the main style. This may be where some of your missing styles are.

Thanks for the correction Matt, yes, I didn't have the exact same value.

OK, I got it. The Syle Picker will only ever search and use the styles in the \bb\ folder.

Checking further the _DIXIELD.STY in the sub-folder is no different to the one in the \bb\ folder. Others I checked were the same too. So the ones in the sub-folder are (all?) just clones.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
