I haven't purchased BIAB yet but, I am sure it is what I am looking for but, I am confused with all the complexity I see on the video demos. Is the learning curve quite extensive? Does anyone have any ideas how I can learn how this works prior to purchasing a product? Thanks for your help.

Briefly, there is a 30-day money back guarantee. Doesn't get any better than that. Hope to welcome you to the community soon!

Need to know what your expectation and intentions are. Then perhaps someone can share screens with you for a custom demo.

Ken,

Welcome to the forum! Band-in-a-Box can be complex because it is capable of doing so many different things concerning music. However, learning how to do one kind of thing is fairly easy.

YouTube videos, the user manual and tutorials, this forum and PG Music support are all resources available for you to use.

welcome to the forum, Ken!

Where do you live? Maybe there's a forum member nearby who could give you some help.

If not, the quick answer is that to learn ALL the features does take some time. But the basic things you do most are very easy... type in some chords, pick a style and hit PLAY and you have a song!

If you hit a brick wall with a problem you can't overcome, that's why we're here. SOMEBODY here will know the answer.

You don't have to be a computer expert to start entering and playing back songs.

The learning curve depends on how advanced your needs are. The are lots of tutorials and the forum users are great at offering help.

Here's a link to tutorials for Windows users.

Welcome Ken. We've all been exactly where you are at one time or another. There are complexities, but this is where the real value lies. Not that you have to use each and every one, you can start with simple chord entries and build from there.

There are many here on the forum that will help and support you. Patt Marr's suggestion of finding someone locally is a great idea. I frequently speak with and log into a guy's computer some 50 miles from where I am using TeamViewer. We're learning and collaborating together. Just let the forum members know where you are and I'm sure there is a helpful guru that can help you along.

Thank you to everyone for your excellent comments and helpful advice.
I will try to answer everyone's comments in this post:
-My expectations are to be able to play along/practice breaks, beginnings/endings with a bluegrass or country band using different instruments that I play (fiddle, banjo, guitar).
- I live in Edmonton AB. so; if anyone uses BIAB I would certainly be interested in meeting up with you.
- I do have teamviewer installed so; if I purchase BIAB I would be interested in exploring that idea of learning the program with you.

Thanks again everyone for your help! This is a great group!

Then the learning curve is not too steep. The only question for you to answer remains: Which PAK should you buy?
Most of us will say the UltraPlusPAK or EverythingPAK -- some others will say the MegaPAK or even the ProPAK may be sufficient for that use. But we all know that the wishlist extends the longer and the more extensive we use BIAB. You can buy everything else later. Check the packages pages for the options:

I'm out. :-)

After purchasing the product, install it and read everything that guides you through that session. It is important. Then turn your brain into play mode and explore some of the features. If you have questions this forum will most probably have a useful answer, and some do have TeamViewer to be able to guide you through some difficult tasks.

I have yet to use TeamViewer for that purpose. But, thinking about it: I have BIAB installed on two different computers. So if somebody would show me something on one computer I could copy that process on the other "at the same time".

Best regards.
Guido

Ken,

I have Team Viewer and would be happy to help you over the rough spots but the best advice may be to just jump in with both feet and, when in trouble, watch the related video, they are excellent.

I'm not one who learns best from manuals but to actually watch an expert show me in a video is great.

Alternately, you are welcome to PM me to setup a T/V session.

And, my parents were Canucks so I'm reasonably familiar with the language, eh!?

First off, welcome! You and I are on a similar path...I'm just slightly down the road a little bit further.

I actually thought about staring a thread to express how easy this program is to use!

For me, I was baffled as to how simple things would happen. I understood you have to put the chords in, but then what? I mean, WHY DOES IT SOUND SO GOOD?!?! What MORE do you have to do? It's complex to get it to sound great...right?! NOT AT ALL!

Now, again, I am pretty new, and there are "tricks" you will want to learn along the way, but in ALL honesty, once I had the program installed, 5 minutes (if that) of putting in some chords, and pushing a button called "generate and play" and my jaw dropped! IT...WAS...A...SONG! Great production, and sounds! I was AMAZED!

I switched to a different style (about 2 minutes..no exaggeration...looking for something different to try), "generate and play"...and viola! Same song, in a totally different feel! Come on! Really?!?!? YES REALLY!

THEN came the solos. I heard them in the videos and in the user showcase, but thought THEY were actually playing them...sometimes they are, BUT many times they are NOT! What?!?! It can do solos??? Fiddle, guitar, piano, sax...YES!!!! And they sound FANTASTIC! It generates them FAST! If you don't like it, push generate again, and you have a different solo! Don't like the style of the solo, pick a different solo player and it sounds totally different!

I LOVE THIS PROGRAM!!!!

If you would like me to post any examples with explanations, I would be glad to do that to show you how easy it is.

If the chord part of it intimidates you at all, there is A LOT of help there as well!

I think you will find this forum to be a great asset towards what you are trying to accomplish. They have been amazingly helpful with me!

Again, welcome!

Chad (Hope that makes it easier)

You, my friend, have hit the jackpot with Band In A Box. That is exactly where BB/RB excels.

I suggest comparing the various versions alongside your needs/goals. It will save Loonies to purchase the Pak rather than the add-ons. Get whatever will cover your current needs while anticipating huge growth in your overall musicianship. I liken the software to learning another instrument, it takes study and practice but the rewards are open-ended.

Don't forget about PG Music's generous 30-day Loonies back, unconditional guarantee. Order the Pak you want and tinker with it for a full 30 days. You risk absolutely nothing!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
