This time a French traditional of the 18th century. Author unknown.
It is now considered a lullaby for children but carries a double meaning throughout (the dead candle, the need to light up the flame, the God of Love, etc.) that becomes clear with its conclusion.
In Europe it used to be sung by children at primary school (without telling about the second meaning).
Probably also in Canada?
The video is also meant for children..... wink
We gave it "a touch of rock".

Au Clair de la Lune

Au clair de la lune, (By the light of the moon)
Mon ami Pierrot, (My friend Pierrot)
Prête-moi ta plume, (Lend me your quill)
Pour écrire un mot. (To write a word)
Ma chandelle est morte, (My candle is dead)
Je n'ai plus de feu. (I have no more fire)
Ouvre-moi ta porte, (Open your door for me)
Pour l'amour de Dieu. (For the love of God)

Au clair de la lune, (By the light of the moon)
Pierrot répondit: (Pierrot replied)
Je n'ai pas de plume, (I don't have any quills)
Je suis dans mon lit. (I am in my bed)
Va chez la voisine, (Go to the neighbour's)
Je crois qu'elle y est, (I think she's there)
Car dans sa cuisine (Because in her kitchen)
On bat le briquet (The fire is lit (could also mean: make love))

Au clair de la lune, (By the light of the moon)
L'aimable Lubin (Likable Lubin)
Frappe chez la brune, (Knocks on the brunette's door)
Elle répond soudain: (She suddenly responds)
Qui frappe de la sorte? (Who's knocking like that?)
Il dit à son tour: (He then replies:)
Ouvrez votre porte, (Open your door)
Pour le Dieu d'Amour (For the God of Love)

Au clair de la lune, (By the light of the moon)
On n'y voit qu'un peu. (They could barely see)
On chercha la plume, (They looked for the quill)
On chercha du feu. (They looked for the fire)
En cherchant d'la sorte, (With all that looking)
Je n'sais c'qu'on trouva (I don't know what was found)
Mais je sais qu'la porte (But I do know that the door)
Sur eux se ferma. (Shut itself on them)

Sorry, had typed the French lyrics and the English translation in 2 separate columns, but whatever I do, the program here keeps on placing the 2 sentences one after another. So I used ( ) for the English translation. Anne-Marie

After that intro, I was expecting Tom Fogerty to jump in. Although your vocals were very good! Did not understand it (English, and a touch of Spanish is all I do) but certainly appreciated it musically. I'm going to have to check out those RTs. Excellent job, as usual!! Take care. Greg

Nice tune and backing. I like your vocal harmonizing on this as well. The kid themed video is a nice touch.

Hi Rob and Anne-Marie,

it's astounding what you made from this
well known children's song.
Very nice harmonies.
Entertaining video (for children).
I enjoyed it.

Where to start?

- Absolutely perfect video to accompany the song and very pro in appearance.

- An interesting and very effective choice of RT's (the slide was both unexpected and very cool).

- Wonderful harmonies

- Impeccable mix

- Great back story on the song's origins

Yep, we much enjoyed the listen and look!

Sounds great. Cool arrangement and harmonies. Really cute video - what program did you use to make the cartoon video?

Rob, Didn't understand the lyrics so I'm glad you translated into English. A very nice cover of a well known standard. Your arrangement certainly updated the song.

Rob and Anne-Marie,

Very well done. Excellent arrangement and mix - as always. This had a little "edgier" sound to it. Sounded great..

Hi Greg,

Tom Fogerty? My vocal range goes nowhere near that frown
But apart from that... thanks for the very nice comment.

Rob and Ann-Marie, I wasn't expecting that style. Of course you pulled it off beautifully. The video works nicely. Great mix as usual. Tom

Hi. I've listened to your songs before and they're always excellent productions. This one is too. Is there some dynamic panning going on or a phaser perhaps?

Hey, had to play Mountains O'Mourne. Superb!

(I've always loved that Don McLean tune. I cover it from time to time.)

Hi Janice and Bud,

Thanks for all those kind remarks. Glad you also liked the video, it was quite some work although it looks quite simple.
And glad you liked the choice of RT's and the slide, because it is one of the few songs for which I've done the music on my own. I knew the song, Rob didn't grin

I used Power Director 12 for this one.

Hi Rob and Anne-marie
I listened to this the other day but don't think I got round to commenting. I always look forward to hearing your latest tunes. Your vocals, production and video are up to your normal very high standard.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
