Here's my 3rd offering, hope you like it, also I've included a link to last weeks song "Chasing Down A Spark" with bass line added on 2nd chorus and thru to the end (per suggestions) good advice. I guess I didn't add it in before because I've done that before on other songs and wanted this one to be stripped down to bare bones, I like the bass build, thanks. https://soundcloud.com/kfl44/sleeping-in-the-carhttps://soundcloud.com/kfl44/chasing-down-a-spark-with-bassSleeping In The Car © 2014 K Leverett Try to unwind at 2 AM After a long night I’m dead on my feet once again But it will be allright We packed the room And played real good Yeah it was electric I think this year we could break thru And find all the magic Dreaming to be stars Little to lose, payin’ the dues Sleeping in the car Hell of a ride time on our side Just one more cup to keep me warm Here at the diner There’s miles to go another show In North Carolina Dreaming to be stars Lookin’ for clues, little to lose Sleeping in the car Hell of a ride, time on our side Bass: 366 Electric, Country Drums: Nashville Even 8 Guitar: 2448 Pop Dreamy Guitar: 2444 Baritone Brent Mason Guitar: 1765 High Strung Acoustic Finger Picking

Hi Aceman. Can see you put a lot of thought into this song. My best advise is simple is best I think you mostly achieved this. Nice work especially the Harmonies. Are they natural or tweaked? Rob

Kenny,
(The bass in Spark sounds good.)
Nice song - a nice write - short simple statements that get the story across.
The harmonies are very nice. The high-strung picking was a great choice. Very nice arrangement - the electrics were brought in in nice order at good times. The drums are a bit low in the first verse compared to the guitars and vocals (sounding like the whole kit was "turned down at the board" instead of "being an intregal part of the band").
A good ride.

As others have noted, nice write and an effective arrangement. The harmonies are especially nice.

44Aceman, +1 on the compliments to harmonies and the write. The last higher vocal Ahhhh...going out of the tune was a nice touch.

Really nice song!! Just love the genuine emotion-really creates a nice mood. Love the arrangement, the harmonies. Everything in the right place. I would probably bring down the verb and the high end on the vocal a bit. I too struggle with a high end addiction, but am in rehab for that with Dr. Floyd Jane. Really enjoyed this a lot!! Take care. Greg

I think that every young musician can relate to this song, especially the "dreaming to be stars" lines! Your vocal is perfect and the lyrics are outstanding. The backing tracks are very good but I agree that the drums could come up a tad, but that is really nitpicking.
This is a great song!
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

Thanks Rob4580
Thanks for the kind words, the harmonies are a little off pitch here and there and far from a tweaked perfect if that answers your question. I do use Sonar V Vocal for pitch correcting on lead vocals but never get around to it on harmonies, too lazy maybe.

Thanks Greg, Guilty as charged, I'm still finding my way. This song is from last year and I realized somewhere along the line that I was recording (especially vocals) thru a V20 into Sonar with reverb and EQ at the beginning and then adding reverb, compression, EQ at the the end. I was also mixing in my headphones where everything sounded fine. On top of that I have lost a lot of my hearing, like most the high range. Writing, recording, and mixing is such a fun process and I really appreciate your input. Kenny

Hey thanks, I love your songs btw. Good ear, I don't remember lowering the drums but I do experiment a lot. It does go from a rim shot to a snare which brings it up a little in the mix. I think I messed with the EQ to bring up the kick drum and it might have muddied the rest of the kit. Anyway, thanks for the kind words and good advice, I might go back and re-mix it. Kenny

Really nice song, performance and arrangement. The vocals and backing were spot on for me. Enjoyed it.

Kenny, I really like this write. The arrangement and editing is great. The vocals are superb. I saw you already commented back on Greg's suggestion on the lead vocal. I think when you can sing as good as you can, you should take extra care not to overuse effects on the lead vocal. Really good job. A lot to like here. Tom

Great write about the road.
"We packed the room And played real good Yeah it was electric I think this year we could break thru And find all the magic"
Man, I have some friends and family who are still living this....after 40+ years. Music is so addictive and some dreams never die.
It's all been said regarding the production. We enjoyed it immensely, added it to the playlist and will share with friends.
Kudos!

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
