Can anyone advise if PG Music have updated the iPad app at all? I tried it a while back and thought it still needed some work. Is anyone using it for live work and if so can you pass on your experiences with it please.

thanks

So it would seem pretty obvious that it is still "less than stellar" - no responses gives me as good an answer as anything. No rancour here btw with no replies I do understand smile ....I guess PG just gave up on it and decided not to develop it any further.

Moving on.

All I can say is that one of the main reasons I upgraded to BIAB 2015 for mac (from 2010.5 version) was to able to use the iPad app. So far it's been a complete bust as I have been unable to successfully download song and rendered sound files to my iPad. It all seems to work--until I try to open the file in the application at which point I discover that it's just not there. When I try to re-download the files I get the message that it already exists and do I want to overwrite the files. So I overwrite the files. Then when I select the folder to which I saved them, nothing shows up. I'm beginning to wonder if I wasted my money on this upgrade.

I use BIAB on IPad extensively - every day and twice on Sunday's. I have well over 200 songs (mostly jazz standards) on it that I use as backing tracks for my daily use - playing melody and improvising on guitar. For Sunday solos in church,I use it for a bass line, with my own recorded guitar accompaniment (using the Record Audio feature), to back me up. I plan to use it for backup when I start playing in a public setting later this year.
I have had no trouble transferring the songs I have created on the desktop version to my IPad (after a few tips from PG when I went astray) but there are several items for improvement which I have recommended to PG (please see my two postings in the Other Programs Wishlist forum) - most notably the ability to go to the next song in a directory in one step. They have not yet made those improvements but I am hopeful.
Give it a try. It fits so well on a music stand - less noticeable than a laptop and larger than an IPhone.

One question for you guys:

Do you ever use the Conductor function to alter the song structure while you're playing?

If not then why do you care about the app? If you're simply playing your songs from start to finish anyway you can convert them to MP3's and use any one of multiple playlist or jukebox apps on your iPads and you can link them to your fakebook charts too.

On the app, when saved externally, I think all audio is converted to mp4 and becomes static. Without BiaB server, generating becomes a barrier.
At least that's how I understand it.

Why use it?
Does your MP3 player show chords?
Linking to fakebook means using only fakebook songs in fakebook arrangement.

I like to use the app to control recording and practicing. It's handy to be able to stop, rewind, and re-record .. without having to move out from behind a mic, or take the bass off, or get out from behind a drum set, etc. to go start the song over and run back in time to be ready.
wink

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

Not only does it show chords, the highlighter shows where you are. As I tend to get lost sometimes when I'm improvising, that's a big advantage.

You did ask about live work Joden. Now I'm not arguing or anything, if you really see a need to have Biab active and live on a gig, fine but my question to you was not answered and that is do you change the song structure on a gig or do you simply hit play and let it go to the end? If you just let it play what's wrong with an MP3 or wave file? Just trying to understand why you think you need Biab server on a gig.

You're not limited to published fakebooks on an iPad. You can use ForScore or other songbook apps and put anything you want in there. You could scratch out a simple cheat sheet in Word or Notepad, import it and FS will automatically convert it to pdf and of course you can use Biab to create the fakebook style chart too. Now, I don't use an iPad myself so I can't tell you if you can link an MP3 inside FS itself or how that works but I do know lots of people have a songfile and the chart linked so they come up at the same time.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
