I was just using the Audio Chord Wizard and had some questions my mind, so I clicked on "Help", which offered me only the video tutorial of ACW. I clicked on it, and it took me to the PGMusic website on the video tutorials page. Which is fine, except that it took me to the "Other Products" tab, which does not have the ACW tutorial. You instead have to go to the "Band-in-a-Box" tab, and then scroll down to the 10th row of available videos to find it. See my picture posts below. I suspect this could be an easy fix in the next maintenance patch.

Additionally, it would seem to me that since the main BIAB help file has a nice section on using the ACW, that section should be made available from within ACW Help, since once you launch ACW, you can't click on anything in the main BIAB screen until you complete using ACW. If you wish to see the information in the help file, you have to cancel ACW and then launch Help from BIAB.

Attached Files (Click to download or enlarge) (Only available when you are logged in)
ACW Part0.jpg (63.48 KB, 77 downloads)
Launch the only Help available in the ACW interface.
ACW Part1.jpg (200.69 KB, 77 downloads)
You are then taken to the "Other Programs" tab of the PGMusic Video Tutorials page, which does not contain the ACW tutorial.
ACW Part2.jpg (198.39 KB, 77 downloads)
You have to click on the "Band-in-a-Box" tutorial tab to access the ACW tutorial.
ACW Part3.jpg (263.49 KB, 77 downloads)
And then you have to scroll down to the 10th row of videos to find it.

John, If you're in a little bit of trouble, well, we're all in a lot of trouble wink .

I see that there are two issues

One lies in that the PGM Website HTML linkages are possibly incorrect,

Two, it seems that the ACW is a Modal Window rather than a Non-Modal Window, meaning that this Window takes focus of the program while opened, and thus meaning that things like Help cannot be launched.

I guess this is really worth reporting to PGM. The workaround may not be too difficult.

Thanks for reporting / raising

Trevor

That's very funny, and I had the same reaction reading the post title: Uh, oh - if John needs help, it must be bad.

Well, not so much help, since I figured it out; more to show what needs fixed (and it would seem to me to be an easy fix).

But, I was actually looking to see if there was a way to slow down the audio within ACW to nail down the bar lines. The song is 4/4 (but really in cut time, but you need the four beats to get all the chords), and at about 200 BPM, it moves along pretty fast. And the end of the chorus has a single two beat bar among, so trying to nail that was difficult as it went flying by.

The answer is, it doesn't support slowing down the audio. Next time, I'll reduce the speed in BIAB first, then launch ACW. But that would be a nice feature.

A couple of other things I noticed along the way that would be nice. In the main BIAB chord grid, you can hit the delete key to remove a chord entry. In the ACW chord grid, delete doesn't do anything; you have to right click and remove it.

You also can't scroll the chord grid with the mouse scroll wheel (which doesn't seem to work at all); additionally, if you scroll down using the thumbnails on the right, it doesn't go one line at a time, it goes one bar at time. The ACW chord grid interface also seems to be page based, so if you go one line below the bottom, it doesn't just scroll up, it puts the new line at the top (as in a new page) and then you can't see what came before. Is this necessary? Well, I found that when I worked out some of the chord changes in the first verse, they should carry over to the second verse, but I couldn't see the first verse on the screen because when I scrolled down to see the first line of the second verse, it popped it to the top of the screen.

I'll post this as a wish list, as well and reference this post.

You have so much patience John. I keep discovering things like this and I get bogged down in figuring out all the details so I can even report it and wind up forgetting about it and moving on.

Biab is such a strange beast sometimes.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
