HEY GOVERNMENT

This is a rhino song I have written in the hope that some brave artist will sing it for the rhino project. Of course I would sing it (I am not scared!) but I am not sure they want more than one song per artist and I already have Fools Errand with Herb. So anyway.

Our government is making a right nana of itself by thinking about legalizing the trade in rhino horn. It is being pressurized by some very powerful "rhino farmers". The size of the stock pile in South Africa is estimated to be 1 Billion USD so big money is at stake here. So this is my plea to our government.

Hey Government
Why you busy sittin' on the fence
The rhinos are busy dying
Legal trading dont make any sense
How long will you keep up this pretense

Hey Government
Dust is slowly gathering in your vault
Slowly covering over
Coverin' your billion dollar hoard
Are you bitter that your stash remains unsold

Hey Government
Are you bending to some inside force
They are powerful and persuasive
Their argument has a fatal flaw
You say your unbiased to their course

Hey Government
What you think's the right thing to do
Keep on peddling a worthless substance
How it turns out is really up to you
Your decision affects other countries too

Hey Government
Its time to climb down from the wall
Its time to put on your big girl panties
Be the answer an example to use all
Time to burn your rhino horn
Time to burn your rhino horn

"Its time to put on your big girl panties"

I love that line!

It is nice to see this perspective in the line up. A good write.

The mix is good (between instruments) but I think you got it a bit hot...it's breaking up in my earbuds..

Josie this is fantastic and I liked everything about it. Your lyrics are super and in fact could used for a number of our governments! You can just change the issue and use these government lyrics: "Legal trading dont make any sense", "Coverin' your billion dollar hoard" and especially "Its time to put on your big girl panties"!

PS - I think our government only has little girls panties!

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

This is really good. You continue to really step up and have matured so much in your songwriting and production. This is an excellent write and production.

Joanne,

Quote:
Its time to put on your big girl panties
you have a thing about underwear, don't you grin laugh blush

That had me clicking my finger, trying to look cool.

As a follow up to my mention of Harry, read this article in the Daily Mail again
Quote:
Shifeta, whose spokesman claimed the ministry wasn’t even aware of Harry’s arrival two weeks ago, also defended Namibia’s tolerance of so-called ‘trophy hunting’, the legal hunting of rare and endangered species.
In May, it was reported that Texan Corey Knowlton had shot a black rhino in Namibia after paying $350,000 (£225,000) for a licence at auction.
Although the practice has been attacked by The Tusk Trust, of which Harry is an active supporter, the minister claimed it generates millions each year for conservancies.
‘People need to understand that the hunting of these animals is totally legal,’ he added. ‘This is completely within the framework of our laws.’

Pretty cool tune, Joanne.

Love the dixielandish (yeah, I just made up that word) blues feel you got going on here.

Thanks for the music,
Dan

+1, I agree with Charlie. I like the decision to double the vocal in places rather than harmonize. Glad to see someone bring up the place that government has in all this. Nicely done. Tom

Very cool song Joanne!! Quite a departure for you musically. I really like the arrangement and mix. Love the message. Pete Townshend expressed his disgust for the government brilliantly in "Won't get fooled again", and your song does a nice job. Generally I find governments to be big parasitic beasts that are motivated by self preservation much more than any interest of the public they "serve". Really enjoyed this!! Take care. Greg

Very nice Joanne. There's a lot of blame to go
around and your song certainly points to
where a goodly amount of it should go.

This is an interesting and surprising style
to use for the tune but it grabs the attention
and works well.

Best to you with this endeavor. I hope your
efforts are appreciated. Hang in there!!

Good fit with the vocals and the arrangement. Neat backing tracks!

Vocal control, you say. Never heard of it. Is that some kind of ProTools thing?

Hi Josie,

I really enjoyed the listen. The backing is outstanding and suits the message so very well. That's a very clever and creative choice of Realtracks! What was the basis style you used? I was mesmerised from start to finish.

This was a standout verse for me.

The reason it appealed was because it very clearly shows the power of using 'close' rhymes rather than perfect rhymes. The end-of-line rhyming of vault/hoard/unsold was excellent and powerful. A perfect choice for drawing attention to the message of the verse.

All the best with what you are doing!
Noel

Floyd: Glad you like the panties line. Our minister of environmental affairs is a woman. So it is quite appropriate. Thanks for the tip about it being too hot. If I get round to redo it I will bear that in mind.

This is funny! Thanks for listening and the nice comments!

Charlie - Thanks so much for your support. I always appreciate it.

Alyn - Thanks. I do seem to have a thing about underwear! I think I mentioned somewhere else that I have sent Prince Harry a message! (what are the chances of him getting it!!)

Dan - Thanks. I like that word "dixielandish"

Guenter - Thanks of listening. Glad you enjoyed.

Tommy - Yes, for once I didn't use harmony. I think I may tend to overdo that particular aspect of recording.

It was indeed a different approach for me in this song. So you know our government too?

Scott - thank you

Thanks. I guess I am sort of attracted to the whole protest thing. I have just got my first "hate mail" in an advert I put up on facebook of Rob and Anne Maries version of my Mandela song! I guess if I am starting to get hate mail then I have arrived as a protest singer.

Rich - Glad you like the teeth!

Bud and Janice - Thank you for the ongoing support. I really appreciate it.

David - Thanks for dropping by and giving it a listen.

Rob and Anne Marie - Thank you. Glad you enjoyed!

Noel - Thank you for your detailed analysis. I think I used _FBLZBA (FolksySwBlues w Sax solo) and just added a clarinet, alto sax and a trumpet

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
