I am coping the Real Tracks from the USB drive to my Raid0 in hopes that it will run faster and also I want to use uncompressed files.

Any issues I should know about?

Thanks,

Billy

Billy,

I don't have the audiophile version but, if it's similar to the standard version, you should only need to direct BIAB to the location of the Realtracks.

This setup is under "Prefs | Realtracks | Custom Realtracks Folder".

I imagine that someone with the Audiophile edition will chime in shortly and correct me if need be.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Noel,

The main difference in the Audiophile addition is the Real Tracks are .wav uncompressed files and very large and also a very larger amount of Real Tracks exist in the Audiophile USB drive.

If you install everything to your computer the instalation program installs WMA files and you have to copy the Real Tracks .wav manually. I assume not many people do that because of the space and time requirements...about 7 hours to copy and then there are the Real Track drums...have no idea yet for the space or time to copy.

I want to get two basic things for the effort.

1. A backup copy of the USB drive or at least the data.

2. The hope is that they will run faster on the striped drives which I think they will...I hope..!!

RAID0 is riskey business to begin with because if you lose one drive you lose both but it is very fast. So roll the dice or not..lol

At the end of the day this like most things in life is about money. What I really want is four one terabyte SSDs...lol and win the loto will I am wishing for stuff...lol

Is the Audiophile already on USB 3 drive?

Even if only USB 2, I am just curious, and that's all: JUST PERSONAL curiosity (not trying to tell you why you do or don't need this speed bump)

Why is speed of RT heavy song(s) generation important? live performance? or...

good luck

Larry

Misc. answers:

Noel is correct about specifying the location. RealDrums can even be on a different drive from RealTracks.

Also, the audiophile drive is indeed USB 3.0. My experience is that it takes longer for any USB 3.0 drive to be 'recognized', but once it is, then commands run much more quickly than 2.0.

Using the .WAV files actually runs a tiny bit faster, because BIAB doesn't have to uncompress them. This used to make a measurable difference, maybe 15 to 20%. It's less now, but it is there.

If you want to copy just the wav files use FastCopy and exclude the wma

So copy all the root files/folders manually except bb (in Explorer go to Tools > Folder Options > View > Show Hidden Files so you get datalist.asc)
then copy all files/folders in bb to an empty bb folder on new drive except Drums & RealTracks
now use Fastcopy to copy the Drums & RealTracks folders to new drive:\bb\ excluding wma
now you will have to manually copy the wma preview file folders in bb\RealTracks\Data

Hi Larry,

Yes as Matt said USB 3.

As far as speed goes the only reason I don't have three 250 HP engines on my boat is only two will fit...lol

All kidding aside, I guess because my machine is really pretty fast and I don't have to wait on much of anything, which I really like, this just looked like a good idea, perhaps not...time will tell. I am not even sure if the Real Tracks will load any faster from the drive on my computer instead of the USB to begin with.

Also the issue of having two copies makes me feel better. That comes from being a pilot I guess and knowing if anything can fail it will and at the worst possible time.

I assume this for RAID zero for three drives

Data is written in blocks of a certain size (usually 64 kB), and it's divided equally across the available drives.
The RAID controller writes the first data block to hard disk 1, the second block to hard disk 2, the third block to hard disk 3, the fourth block to hard disk 1 and so on.
The hard disks are accessed simultaneously and the data is spread evenly, so in theory a RAID 0 array with three disks is three times faster than one hard disk.

As I have 32 gigs of RAM I am not sure just how much I gain from the RAID array.

The big downside is if one drive fails you lose all data.

I am always in over my head....BIAB is no different...lol

I grew up in a push button AM radio world and communicated on Morse code for years and everything in the studio was two inch analog tape so take everything I say in that context.

Cheers,

Billy

That would have been a great idea....but too late now, I am 90% finished with the transfer of the RT folder to my RAID drive. Oh well...live and learn.

Thanks,

Billy

Not much lost, Billy. The .WAV files are eleven times larger on average than the .WMA files you could have omitted copying.

Thanks Matt,

I think the saying down in Texas is " even a blind hog finds an acorn now and then"

I sometimes get lucky and don't mess up too bad.

I need to get this install finished. I have a very busy and very good vocalist out in LA who wants to do some stuff with me. I don't get that opportunity every day.

We want to try to do some 1930 style stuff using Guitar Resophonic Rhythm Blues Delta. I am having a bit of an issue learning how to search for certain styles but in this case nst093 is the file I want to use and only guitar.

I got a couple hours before we are going to get together.

Billy

If you want to remove the wma that you don't use ever just move the Data folder to the root then go to drums & realtracks folder and search .wma ctrl+a > shift+del then move the data folder back.

Indiginus have a good Delta Slide www.indiginus.com/DeltaBlues.html
also you can use the RealCharts midi on a virtual instrument with a bit of adjustment, I had some old blues I was doing with harp and used the harp realchart on a guitar to play the same riff in response/answer to the harp riff.

Actually another blues on I'm doing right now could not find a B3 solo to fit so ended up using a realchart from a Sw 165 Trumpet Solo on the B3 @ 130 and it fit great.

Again thanks for the info solidrock.

The amount if info you guys know is amazing.

I feel like I am getting out of the stone age..lol... to 1930 at least...lol

Well that was a lot less costly than having Paul English play the B3 for you live.

Final word for tonight.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Everything is working as expected or perhaps better.

The Real Tracks are re generating as fast as I can click on them and loading really fast. As soon as I click on a new style they load in less than a second or two at the most so I guess this was an idea that worked as planned.

Now that I have the software set up, the way it operates is pretty easy to understand.

I don't expect a very long learning curve at this point for good basic use.

For sure I have some studying to do and all the conversation and info that was given to me today put me miles down the road.

So thanks to everyone again.

Cheers,

Billy

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
