Hi,

I have been auditing many of the Artist Performance sets in BB.

Can I use one of Brent Mason's solos in a original song I create?

I tried part of one of the solos for an intro which works fine if I keep it in the same key.

Do we have any copyright restriction on what we can use out of BB?

Thanks,

Billy

Billy,

Any solo that's generated by BIAB from the Realtracks is fine for use with anything you compose/create.

Using the Artist Performances, though, I'm not sure about that. It would pay to drop a line to support@pgmusic.com and ask.

Regards,
Noel

I don't think there would be any problem, it is the same artist Performing, there are even some nice licks in Brent Mason Guitar Star and they both have the midi notation and GS has PDF notation also.

When you bought BiaB you got the license to use it in your compositions.

My song, The Best Christmas, has Brent's playing on the solo.....so yes, you can do that.

You can find my music at:

I have not tried any of the $50 teaching products yet but I will in the future. I am trying to get a handle on BB at the moment and that is a big enough job.

Also I played some of the Brent licks and find it pretty hard on my old hands bending the notes down on the second and third fret. That style of "chicken pickin" takes a bit of work to get down in any event. I have never really tried to play country but have always liked it.

Don't ever get old...lol

Cheers,

Billy

Yeah, I'd like to know what PG's policy is on that too.

Hi Josie,

The whole world of copyright is a tangled mess at the moment.

I sometimes wonder when I play a C chord on the piano if someone is going to call me up to say I am infringing on their copyright...lol

Your song "Here Comes The Night" is just lovely by the way.

Pretty vocal....feel like you are the girl next door.

How music had the ability to connect us is just wonderful.

Cheers,

Billy

The artist performances are demonstrations that may have a sound recording copyright. Definitely, get permission from PG Music first.

Thanks Matt,

Kinda what I assumed. This is a complex issue at best. If it is copyrighted, who owns the copyright, PG Music, some publishing company? If P G Music agrees to let me use that recording, will they give me a written legal release?

I did not read the use agreement I must have agreed too when I got this software or send it to a music attorney to review. This information may be contained in that agreement...who knows...

The first question I ask the sales desk before I got the software was " Do I have unrestricted use of the music contained in this software, and can I use it for commercial purpose" too which they answered yes. They did say I can not take a demo song "as is" and re-sell it but if I took the demo song and used it for the basis of an new song I had the right to do that.

PG Music should make it very clear in bold type, up front, page one, what one owns and what they do not.Just sayin...

Thanks,

Billy

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
