As I am pretty new to BIAB, (one week) I have a question about using BIAB and Real Band (RB). I entered a song in BIAB and after a bit decided to import it into RB to add more instruments as I have reached the max 7 for BIAB.
I noticed that none of the instrument changes that were done in the Bar changes seemed to be available in RB, even though it was playing the song with the changes that I put in BIAB.
Does something get lost in the translation or am I just missing something obvious?

I don't use RealBand (learned SONAR first) so I'm just guessing, but this technique should work in any DAW since you can have many tracks:
You could duplicate the track(s) in question, set the correct patches for each instrument that plays part of it, and then mute the parts that you don't want played by a particular patch. Ex. you want a piano then a flute. Duplicate the track, set the first track to piano, and set the new track to flute. Mute the appropriate parts.
I don't know if patch changes from BIAB are preserved in RB. Anyone?

I'm pretty sure Patch Changes are preserved. I can't recall ever having to put them in manually.
One important tip is that once the BiaB file is opened in RB (e.g. the *.sgu, *.mgu file), save it in RB as a Native RB Format *.SEQ file. Next time you open it in RB it will be almost instant.

Don't know if this makes a difference or if this is what you do. What I do is:
Open RB, and then navigate to the BB file and open the file and never had any problems. As mentioned, save as SEQ.

Ok, it looks like patch changes are preserved, especially since he can hear them in RealBand. How then does Tony change them, or add others, in RB?

Ya the issue isn't getting them in RB, it is they are not changeable in RB. It seems like the visual changes are gone in the tab section....but the wave files and parts are doing what BIAB part changes were.
Maybe I'm wrong but I was looking at RB as an extention of BIAB. As BIAB only has 7 tracks and I want to be able to add more I was opening the songs in RB to add the tracks I need.
There also seem to be some differences in what RB and BIAB can do...aside from the number of tracks,

RealBand is not just BIAB with more tracks. It is a DAW with BIAB features built in (to include being able to open BIAB files for further processing).
Unlike BIAB, for example, RealBand unfolds everything from beginning to end - so there are no choruses or repeats. There is just the song from beginning to end.
Once a song is open in RealBand, you have full control over editing it. You can add additional RealTracks; you can record vocals or instruments; you can change BIAB styles and regenerate; you can selectively apply effects and chain them across subgroups, etc, etc.
If there were changes of MIDI instruments on a track, then those are probably visible in the MIDI event list (accessible with the F2 key). You should be able to delete the embedded changes and then set it for the whole track if you want. Or you can duplicate a track to multiple tracks, cut out what you don't want from each one, look at the event list to remove any extraneous patch changes, and set it for the multiple tracks.
Be aware that the "BLUE" tracks in RealBand are considered BIAB tracks and do limit you on some of the things you can do on the track; however, there is a command to make BIAB tracks regular tracks and then you can do whatever you want to with them.

but the wave files and parts are doing what BIAB part changes were The 'wav' files (tracks) will need to be regenerated in RB. If true audio is brought into RB it will not automatically change with the new Chord changes. That is another difference between RB and BiaB. Since RB is linear, the audio is written once as a stream and played back when play is hit regardless of changes to the Chords window. Audio will need to be regenerated after changing the chord structure in order to match. Whereas BiaB regenerates the parts every time Play is hit, RB does not; it keeps the previous take unless you tell it to regenerate the track(s).
