I can't change either the chorus end or the song end without changing the other.
I want an 8 bar outro on my song. Is that too much to ask?

When I bought the software I really expected to be able to map out a song. Intro, verse, chorus, bridge, and outro chords and tell it play intro,verse,verse,chorus,verse,chorus,bridge,chorus,verse,chorus,chorus, outro and end

You can do all that, you just need to know how.
BIAB don't really distinguish between the chorus and the song. The Chorus is one time through the song. So Think linear, no repeats just lay out the whole song in One Chorus.
Use a colored part marker to visually distinguish each part. As long as you don't exceed the 255 bar limit you will be good to go.

Ok I see it here under "Framing the song" on page 108 of the User's guide.
"Framing a song designates the first and last bars of each chorus and the number of choruses Band-in-a-Box will play before playing the standard 2-bar ending."
so what I want to know is how to get it to play something other than the standard 2-bar ending.

Click on Song Settings to the right of the title bar. Unclick 2 bar ending and enter your own ending. All of what you need to know is in the manual or help menu.

UNFOLD that sucker.... don't let it set there all bundled up with repeat signs on it. It's too confusing.
I find it very useful to UNFOLD the song into ONE CHORUS....I believe that's in the EDIT drop down....as opposed to the default way it loads where it uses repeats.
This lets me see, edit, and rearrange the song in a linear fashion without the mumbo-jumbo of dealing with repeats. In addition, I know exactly where I am at a given point, in the song. For example if I just want to work on the last chorus and tags... I know where to go to start at that point.
I'm able to create any part I want with ease, including custom endings that don't fit the traditional BB 2 or 4 bar default endings.

Gismo, try the Song Form Maker. It is described in Help, Index, Song Form Maker. If you have BIAB 2013 or newer, you can do what you requested in your second post above. The Song Form Maker is a bit of an unusual bird. Once you define all the parts of you song (one time), it then rebuilds the chord chart to expand all the parts out as specified in a linear fashion. It does not do any looping as one might have assumed it would. So in fact it just converts your short form to a full linear form for playing. So it really just saves you some typing and chord entry. Not complaining, just trying to clarify how it works.

The Song Form Maker is also undo-able, so you are not locked in to any particular form, especially as you compose an original song.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
