I have BIAB 2010

I want to have 8 bars play 3 times then a 4 bar ending. Pretty simple I would have thought but I am damned if i can work it out.

Can anyone help please.

Thank you

Join the club Mike.

I have posted the problem (for me) and the kind users on this forum gave me many suggestions, all of which I've tried follow, but it all comes down to trial and error as far as I can see.

Mike,

Simply lay the song out in a linear form of 28 bars. Then use part markers to define the sections. The part markers are obtained by clicking on the bar numbers. A green part marker has more movement in the backing than a blue one.

To do this, set the "End" at 26 and the "Choruses" to 1. The reason that the ending is 26 is because BIAB will add a 2 bar ending and 26 + 2 = 28.

The below image shows how I'd set out a 28 bar song.

Bars 1 - 8 = section 1

Bars 9 - 16 = section 2

Bars 17 - 24 = section 3 (with an interrupted cadence for a bit of musical variation)

Bars 25 - 28 = 4 bar ending with bars 27 and 28 automatically provided by BIAB

Laying a song in linear format gives maximum control over the final sound of the backing by allowing drum and instrumental breaks to be added at selected bars (they will occur in the bar before the part marker).

For a comparison, below is how I instructed BIAB to create a 50 bar song of mine (in a linear layout). I never use repeats and endings because I don't like the lack of control.

Regards,
Noel

Noel,
that's the way I do it, having given up on the repeats/codas/endings thing, but I still wish I could master the repeat etc. functions.
If for nothing else, just to say I can do it.

Foe me, I think one of the problems is mastering the terminology, must be an age thing or just thick !!

The repeat feature is useless. The end of the last repeat is the end of the song. You have no control over that.

Click on the top bar EDIT....scroll down to UNFOLD.... and do what they said up above.

That's how I do ALL my songs. It's easier to see and work with.

UNFOLD OR LINEAR BUILD is, for now, the best way to build a song. You can then add repeats, codas, endings etc., as needed. They are essentially print functions anyway. If the song plays through as you expect, you can clean up the presentation with a little patience.

It does work every time. You can use the copy-from-to, add bars, as needed without too much trouble. Just set the number of repeats to 1, and the number of bars to a largish number to start.

When I UNFOLD the song to one chorus as PG calls it... it's rare that I ever have to add measures. Most of the time, I find myself deleting measures to make it work and end properly.

Most often the number of measures in a song varies from around 70 to 130...depends greatly on the tempo.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
