When I render my Band In A Box files to .wav and use Media Explorer to import them into Reaper, the files run slower than the rate assigned. For example, I created a project running at 105 bpm in 3/4 on BIAB, and rendered the tracks to .wav.

I then set-up a new Reaper file at 105 bpm in 3/4 and imported the .wav files through Media Explorer. To get them to play at the original tempo, I had to increase the tempo setting in Reaper to around 125.

That wouldn't really present much of a problem except that, if I import other files, e.g. midi, from other sources, they play at the specified tempo and don't match up with the BIAB .wav files.
HELP!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum.

It is possible there is a mismatch between the waveforms standards used by Band-in-a-Box and Reaper.

Band-in-a-Box exports 16 bit depth waveforms sampled at 44.1 kilohertz. I suspect your Reaper project settings are different and the BiaB waveforms are not properly converting to the Reaper project settings.

Check your Reaper project settings and create a test project using the 16/44.1 settings.

Set the project tempo in REAPER then drag straight into REAPER from BIAB of a folder.

Bob,

I've been using Reaper with BIAB since version 3. I've never come across the problem that you've encountered. There's always been a perfect match between BIAB and Reaper tempo settings.

For me, the tempo in Reaper has no effect on how fast the song plays. All it does is to align the bars in Reaper with the correct locations in the music from BIAB. It sounds like you have some option engaged that I do not.

In solidrock's above image, I wonder if you've activated "Force the project tempo/time signature to occur on whole samples" (just above BPM)?

Another possibility that I've just discovered is found under the media tab in the "Project Settings"...

Follow the 1, 2, 3 on the image below and see if "Embed Project Tempo" is active... if so, deactivate it.

My last thought is to double-check that the playback rate is set to "1"... see the image below. While this is varied by the slider I've highlighted, it's also possible to simply type in a value.

Let us know if any of the above solves the problem.

Regards,
Noel

Bob,

Continuing...

I've also just discovered that if you used Media Explorer (in Reaper) to load your tracks, check that the "Tempo Match" is off.

Noel

As been said many times here. BIAB/Reaper are a wonderful combination. I have never seen the issue you are mentioning, but Reaper can be very complex and folks above have pointed you to some set up features which may help.

Otherwise, I can tell you I don't convert to wav prior to the transfer. It can all be done on the fly with Drag and Drop. That way I keep BIAB open at the same time as Reaper and can go back and forth as needed.

I can't tell you how many times a BIAB render has been thrown off by Reaper's importing. Fortunately, it's pretty easy to fix.

First, I make sure the tempo of the project matches the tempo of the original BIAB project. Then I right-click on the imported .WAV file, and click Item Properties at the top.

The fun part is making sure the Playback Rate (in the middle left of the window that opens on the right-click) is reset to 1.00000. Once you've got that for all the .WAV files, you should be good.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
