As some of y'all know, I'm trying to get back into performing music as a retirement gig. And, I'm going the route of using RealBand as my delivery program.

In order to promote myself, I've joined a couple of sites that help link musicians with people who need bands. And, seeing the wide number of genres represented on the sites, I realize that my demographic is limited if I go in advertising just classic rock.

Problem is, I'm the proverbial old dog who has a hard time learning new tricks. And I've already invested quite a bit of time getting my songs set up with lyrics, chords, MIDI effects changes etc, so the idea of starting over from scratch to create an acoustic set, a jazz set and bluegrass set is overwhelming...

BUT...

The thought just occurred to me to copy all of my songs to new directories, and simply regenerate my classic rock songs into other genres, like Jazz, bluegrass and acoustic! It's not uncommon for those genres to include classic rock songs... how many times have Beatles tunes been revisited as Jazz or bluegrass tunes?

This way, most of the work is already done, I don't have to learn new chords or remember new lyrics... (though in the case of the bluegrass set I may have to play the chords on a banjo or mandolin... but that's a small challenge compared to that of starting over from scratch.)

Doing this will enable me to advertise myself under more search categories! And hopefully that will result in more gigs.

What an incredible program!

Pat, exactly right. And why not?
Many songs have been reinvented by changing the style, a new look and feel so to speak. Go for it!

it's also a good argument for using RB or BIAB as the delivery method for the trax (as opposed to an MP3 player)

I once started to do exactly that, Pat. I was like 4 songs into it and I changed gears and decided to finish the original music CD. I have a list of about 10 songs I want to do with completely different feels than the originals. If you remember a while back (WAY back) I posted a version of Wilson Pickett's "634-5789" that was done as a boogie piano song. That kind of thing.... I should get back to that.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

Later my friend,

Danny! Glad you chimed in! I'm at the point in this journey where I need to pick your brain... you've already solved all the problems I'm just starting to encounter!

Be expecting an email or a PM pretty soon, once I organize my thoughts

(great idea on the Christmas parties! I need to add some Christmas song demos to my gigsalad page...)

How refreshing to be on a forum where people don't respond to ideas by saying "nah, THAT won't work!"

I came upon the idea as I analyzed what a person who books wedding entertainment needs. For the rehearsal dinner and/or reception dinner, they need quiet background music... maybe jazz or acoustic.

After dinner, the older relatives want to hear classic rock or country played by a real band.

But the bride and her friends want a DJ who plays the songs they know.

Normally somebody would have to choose ONE of those options... but the right band for the dinners might be the wrong band for the dancing... and the right band for the older guests may not suit the younger guests. What a dilemma for the poor soul who has to book the band and please everybody!

So I'm working up a package that offers all of the above for one price. They won't have to choose one or the other if they can have it all! And BIAB makes it possible (I won't say easy... there's still a lot of work involved...) but without BIAB it would not be in the realm of my possibility to do what I'm planning.

I'm hoping the person responsible for hiring the band is under a lot of pressure to please everybody, so that's what I'm trying to sell: a solution that gives everybody what they want.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
