Another quick and dirty song by JonD and myself.

The BaiB style is Smooth Jazz Cool SW 16. We deleted all but the drums.

JonD is playing the EP via his keyboard controllers. I am playing the wind controller (tenor sax) and the fretless bass.

We hope that you like it.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.

Mario,

This is very nice listening... I'm sitting here in Melbourne on a rainy Monday with your and Jon's composition playing in the background. It suits really well.

I mention this simply for what it's worth... it's entirely a personal preference thing. On my system there seemed to be a great deal of sustain with the piano chords, more than would occur in actual playing. It was more noticeable on headphones than speakers. If ever you revisit the arrangement, and if it's possible, it would be interesting to A/B the piano with various sustain settings just to see the differences in the effect produced... as I said, personal preference... please feel free to ignore.

Overall, this is a beautiful melody and I loved the jazz sax. You've really mastered the wind controller!

All the best,
Noel

Nicely done - the sax playing flowed really well and was very melodic.

This has been a smooth Jazz Monday for me so far. Playing catch up here on the User Forum posts and so far enjoyed songs by Alek Rand, F.M.M. and you and Jon. Enjoyed this and as always, marvel at your musical and midi skills.

I've got a technical question regarding your recording process. Do you render a song after entering your chord chart before you delete all the tracks but drums and do your overdubs?

Nice tune, y'all!

Your sax gets better all the time, Mario - really carries this one!

Cool bass lines, too.

I agree with Noel about the piano. The sustain was a tad distracting...

A good listen, nonetheless.

Oh man, was that sax ever sweet and I love a
fretless bass (old bass fiddle guy).

Superb!

I apologize for taking so long to thank everyone who listened and commented on this song; life has been getting in the way of making and listening to music lately!

Thanx all for the wind controller comments. They are greatly appreciated. I would suggest that all trumpet, sax, flute and clarinet players get an Akai EWI-USB wind controller. They take some time to get down but it is well worth it, especially for those horn parts.

Noel and others- we looked into the piano sustain problem and JonD and I totally agree with you. That is something that we I should have caught but didn't, my bad!

Charlie - my usual workflow is this:
1-input chords in biaB and choose a style
2-in the MIDI plug in mode copy all tracks to Sonar
3-decide which tracks I want to modify and/or replace

Thus sometimes I delete all but the drum track and replace them with our instruments. Many times I will keep the strings but modify them to my liking. Sometime I will take sections of a track, modify them and change instruments; for example once I liked a short section of the piano track so I copied it to a new track, raised it an octave and changed the sound to a harp. What I do really depends on what I want in the song.

Thanx again all.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
