Hello, everybody. Any way to tame a midi drum track? Putting in a lot of extra hits and fills where there are no part markers. The events list is really a pain to use in trying to edit midi tracks. I've tried regenerating the drums a bunch, but they stay hyper. Thanks!!

I think you can select simple for the drums and it won't do fills. Probably be a good idea generate a second drum track with fills then you could copy the fills you want to add.

How are the MIDI drums created?
If they are generated, you can regenerate them with another style (as mentioned above) using a simpler RD.

I like to mute the existing, then go to another track and try regenerating them using a different style (or variation on the right side of the picker). That way I keep what I had for now.

Thanks for the replies. I have the pro package and I guess there are no midi drum tracks. In BIAB there is a function called 'force real drums to midi', or something like that, and that works very well, but I can't find such a function in RB. Rharv, I do the same thing, generate on different tracks. I see you say generate a different RD track that is simpler, but I want to use midi track. Anyone care to recommend a midi style set with good midi drums? Thanks guys!

It would help to know the current style and what you are after.
It may help with guesses.

From your description, one option would be to use BiaB to find the desired style. It is faster for this.

Save As an sgu file format and open in BiaB .. tinker until you find the drums you like, then remember what style it was and go back to the RB project.
Whatever gets the job done quickest.

There is also an Edit-Fill Track with MIDI Drum .. if that is more what you are looking for. It's basic, but quick and often simple. Not 'Real' players though.

Go to your style picker and select a midi style
go to Generate > Generate Midi Track > Drums

I think what he is asking for is the reverse. For the workflow of using Generate-Generate Midi Track-Drums (first) to show the other styles and let you pick a different one there.. different work flow.

Sorry guys if I wasn't clear. The midi drum track in question is Funk 1. It's just to busy, and I thought there might be a way to keep the funk 1 style, (which is good for the song), but make the drum track less busy. I like the fills at the part markers, but there is a lot going on in regular bars. Thanks, and I'll try to be more concise. I really appreciate the help.

Go to another track and try another style. In the StylePicker the drum style being used is listed in a box on the right side.
RB should only generate the new track, so you can experiment. It would be nice to be able to see other related MIDI drums easily though, as mentioned.

Thanks, Rharv. Generated a different drum style that fits pretty wee, but darn it, now the drums aren't doing any fills at all, not even at the part markers. Can't win for losing. If you would, see if I'm doing this correctly. To generate the drums in a different style, I go to style picker, open the desired style, generate the drums, then, do I set the style back to the original style, or leave it where it is after I regenerate the drums? ARGHHHH!

In RB the style only affects the next generation process. So changing it has no effect on existing tracks, only the tracks selected the next time you hit generate.

I generally cut/paste or mix/match sections to get what I want. It can seem like a pain, but offers great flexibility once you get the hang of it.

Keep the sections from your new (no fills) track that you like and paste in the fills from the other track that you want.
I find it faster to start with the simple track and add (paste) the fills where I want them this way.

Thanks, rharv, I realized it was a dumb question after I posted it. I'll start trying to build that perfect drum track today. Thanks again for your patience and help.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
