Apologies for being missing but it has been an horrific and exceptionally dark period of my life in the past few months and then on Christmas Eve someone stopped me and introduced himself, as an ex-patient from when I was a Dentist. I didn't know what to say because in front of me was a woman.... He then said that he always was a cross dresser but now was transitioning. He talked and I listened for maybe 5 minutes and verse 2 is a little of what he said. Jeez what a brave man to stop me and tell me his thoughts. When he went he shook my hand and said thanks for listening.
This is for him. In the song I pretended we were child-hood mates

Hullo Suzie

When we were kids we used to hang about every day in the park
we were the kinda friends that'll watch each others backs
then home alone with your thoughts going through your mind, oh so dark
I never knew you didn't feel the same as I did.

You say you never get used to people who stop and stare
it was hard and you cried each night when you were alone
you said you felt deserted as no-one seemed to have a care
but now you can be who ever it is that you finally want to be.
Hullo Susie x3
I'm glad you can feel at home at last

Alyn my old friend, this is simply exceptional.

Even by your high standards of creativity this stands out as something special.

From the first ethereal chord it had me entranced and then held me spellbound as it developed until it exploded into that magnificent ending.

The lyrics and the story just add another dimension to what is already an amazing piece of writing.

Did I say I liked it? Just going back for another listen to make sure.

ROG.

PS. Nice guitar work.

Hi Alyn,

thanks for the lyrics and the background story.
Great build up and instrumentation.
Especially like the filter sweeps, your guitar and The Flab Four.
A great listen (several times).

You weren't really clear whether your song character was actually a childhood mate or just a stranger searching for a thoughtful ear. No matter, the end result is a sensational song. Clearly one of your best across the board.

A great, great subject and very contemporary for today.

Sorry the past few months have been hard on you, but welcome back.

I guess there's nothing like running into an old mate who is transitioning to a transgender to bump you out of a funk. smile

Hi Alyn. Beautiful song. Riveting flutes (or is that the harmonica, sounds amazing) and a touch sad. Hope all is well with you. Cheers.

Really fascinating song!! The music creates an eerie feeling that goes so well with the complicated subject. Instrumentation and mix are excellent-feels totally live and organic. Love what you did with that harmonica. And, finally, I had no idea you could play like that!! Epic!! This is an extremely creative and well done song in every sense. Wonderful work!! Take care. Greg

Stunnnning, Alyn!

Written like it simply fell out of your heart.

The acoustics sound spectacular - not always an easy thing to get right.

Your vocal is heart-wrenching. Beautiful.

The atmospheric background is really nicely done. Haunting - perfect for the song.

The Hullo Suzie x3 - super. As that was ending, I was thinking... "how cool would it be if it broke out into a big rock sound right here". AND IT DID!!! And SO well done.

This is truly a work of art.

floyd

P.S. .... been missin' ya - wondering where you got off to... I do hope all is well...

oh - almost forgot... nice guitar work!

Wow.... impressive!

I'm listening on cans and this is stunningly good. With out a doubt your BEST ever.

The textures in the music are really well done. The sweep works and the ending was executed well.

Like I said.... very nice.

I can relate to this because my brother is now a woman. He won the "most changed" award at his high school reunion. That took some cajones to attend something like that. He made the change quite a few years back and needless to say, it was quite a shock to many people in the family as well as friends.

O-bla dee... life goes on....

Alyn I like the fact that you took a tough subject and made a terrific song out of it. Very good imagination on the instrumentation and use of it. Absolute superb guitar playing (you were smoking)! Enjoyed listening.

ROG,

Thank you, I wrote this on my 10 string guitar (2 broken strings mad ) and was gonna be LOUD all the way through but when the words hit everything changed.
It is a sad song because he/she was tearful when we said goodbye and he walked away all hunched up. The ending was me "telling" him to walk tall.
I haven't seen him since but want him to listen.

Glad you enjoyed

Alyn

Thanks Guenter,

The sweeps came by accident as I was playing around with the chord track and you must know that feeling when you go "that's it"

So glad you enjoyed

Sorted your query out as the guy was an ex-patient I hadn't seen for 17 years, and I didn't know what to do when he stopped me. But I too noticed all the strange looks we got as he talked to a long grey haired weirdo (me grin)
I can't imagine what it would be like to feel as he did and it put my problems into perspective a bit.

Glad you enjoyed and thanks for listening

What a great song Alyn! Dark but beautiful.
Like Floyd said the acoustic guitars sound very clear and bright.
The harmonica and electro-flute are such an asset to this mix!
The backing vocals are beautiful, and then of course, as always that sudden dynamic solo.
Your best!

This is an awesome production and great song. Turn up the vocals a little though.

Other than that, one heck of a job. Nice!

Janice just said that it sounds "sad in an ethereal kind of way...and also hints
of the production of the Beatles during the Strawberry Fields Forever period.

I have a cousin who made the same change and sadly was ostracized by the
immediate family. Very sad, indeed.

Your use of RT's, etc., is always very innovative and this tune illustrates that
very well. The build (explosion?) into the rock sound was brilliant.

Enjoyable and thought provoking!

A superb production. Liked all of it and very clever use of the real tracks.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
