I have been getting an intermittent access violation, which freezes BIAB, ever since I installed
2016 on a new laptop. The error references "elastiquepro.dll" I have seen previous posts that
mention similar problems with elastique but haven't seen a definitive solution mentioned. It only
happens when I hit Play with a song with RT's. Never at BIAB start up, and never with the first song after start-up.

Here is my set up and things I have tried.

New I7 laptop, Win 10
Virtually NOTHING on the laptop other than BIAB 2016/430, no virus program or internet connection.
Using hard synth with MME and 300ms latency and VSTi/DXi disabled.
Checked for any updated audio drivers and disabled a couple I don't need.
Running BBW.exe as administrator, with UAC disabled.
Tried a return to BIAB factory settings and then did a COMPLETE new BIAB install.
I did a search and cannot find any file called elastique anywhere on the computer other than a logo so the program must have been around at some time. I have another computer running BIAB 2016 and cannot find elastique on that one either.

What does BIAB use elastique for? I believe it is an "audio stretching" program, whatever that means. Is it hiding somewhere? Do I really need it?

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Tony

You definitely need it and other DAW's use it too. What it does is allow for audio time stretching without audible artifacts.

The reason you haven't read much about this problem is nobody but one other person has reported this. I've never seen it and except for that one other person nobody else has either.

My only suggestion is to install the latest updates because we're at 431 now.

Biab/RB latest build, Win 11 Pro, Ryzen 5 5600 G, 512 Gig SSD, 16 Gigs Ram, Steinberg UR22 MkII, Roland Sonic Cell, Kurzweil PC3, Hammond SK1, Korg PA3XPro, Garritan JABB, Hypercanvas, Sampletank 3, more.

Sorry, forgot I had loaded 431 since I drafted the post, no better.

If it is needed by BIAB how come I cannot find it anywhere on two different computers running BIAB?

Hi Tony,

The file should be in the \bb folder and it's called dllelastiquepro.dll

As a suggestion, it might help PG Music if you add any further thoughts to the below thread because then all the information about this issue is in one location. Peter Gannon has also been visiting this other thread.

here is the earlier thread

As Bob mentions, Elastique Pro is one of the programs PG Music uses with Realtracks when assembling backings. It's a product by zplane.

Regards,
Noel

Thanks Peter

It is very intermittent so I will have to wait for the next time it happens.

I found the elastique file in the bb folder, I didn't realize that the name started with dll.

Have you checked out this thread? Is it the same message? If it is, rest assured they're working on it laugh

Yes, I had seen the thread but it seemed to relate to the Jukebox and ASIO, neither of which I am using so it seemed better to ask a different question. Anyway Peter has replied to me so this thread is active.

No, I got it outside of jukebox, but much rarer. I don't use ASIO either. :-) If you run jukebox, you'll probably see the error message quite quickly.

Good idea to run Jukebox to speed up occasions when the problem occurs. I immediately found an offending song (they are always multi RT songs) and sent the file to Peter.

Tony,
"They are always multi RT songs"

What does a "multi RT" that mean? Is that a track with Realtracks changing on it, or is it just simply a style that has a few Realtracks

Also, if you disable prefs - Realtracks speed up Realtracks generation time (similar wording) does it still happen, and if so does it happen before play begins or after?

Hi Peter

I mean simply a style that has several Realtracks.

The access error always happens at the start of a song, usually as the second bar plays.

I tried disabling Realtrack fast generation and it makes no difference. You should know that I always use "pause until midi or key received." so I cannot play a song until generation has finished and the yellow flag appears. All my songs are frozen.

I tried a test with the Jukebox playing just four bars and left it cycling round a group of 10 songs. In this case "pause until midi or key received" was disabled. I ran the test with and without fast regeneration and the access error occurs in both cases although, as I have said, it's very intermittent. This is a good test because you can leave it running for hours if necessary.

I have also just run the same test on another (Win8.1) computer running build 430 and get the same error.

Peter

I think the problem is related to the "High quality tempo/pitch stretching" option.
I ran the jukebox test without this option ticked and had no error even after 30 minutes running the Jukebox. I ticked this option and got the error within 1 minute. I then repeated the test with the same results.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
