Drifter

left my apartment and put everything in storage
headed east the sun came up and turned the whole world orange
a desert sunrise beats all i’ve ever seen
a forgotten postcard from my childhood dreams

Another day goin nowhere time to hit the road
where im headed God only knows

I’ve just kind of wandered down these streets of mine
if i said i had a plan good bet that i was lying
theres no excuses left I'm running low on hope
I pick up and pack up then I start to roll

Another day goin nowhere time to hit the road
where im headed God only knows

I’m a drifter spending all my time out on the highway

trying to find a way to do it my way

this is all the life I ever knew

I’m a drifter moving toward a random destination

searching for a sign of my salvation

But What the hell I’m only passing through

i am like a leaf floating free up in the sky
I don’t have to be afraid when I lay down at night
Another town is calling which way will I turn
Down the road to better days or the ones where I get burned

Another day goin nowhere time to hit the road
where im headed God only knows

I’m a drifter spending all my time out on the highway

trying to find a way to do it my way

this is all the life I ever knew

I’m a drifter moving toward a random destination

searching for a sign of my salvation

But What the hell I’m only passing through

Tom,

Beautiful intro, guitar, vocals, mix,
I wish I could write songs even a millionth as good as this cry grin

And was it that long? seemed to go by so quickly so an instant replay was necessary.

excellent

Hi Tom.

A super piece of country rock which hits the ground at a gallop.

Sounds great LOUD, but I think I think this one really needs to be played in the truck on the interstate.

Great track. Loved the whole thing.

Dang! That's was REALLY cool!

I really like how you build your songs! Everything works so well. I can tell you pay attention, because it shows up in your songs!

May I ask what you put the loops in to use them?

I love it!!

That's my kind of country rock.... well written, and some really nice playing and good parts.... some hot fills in there.... especially in that chorus.

Your voice fits this nicely. I'd pull the high harmony on the chorus back a few dB .... nothing major.... harmony sounded good.

Nice lyric crafting as well.

This one has all the good stuff that a good song needs. Top notch across the board. Here on the forum, we're lucky your choice was family over drifting.

Caaron, Thanks for the nice words. I usually drop the loops into Garageband and build them from there then export to Logic Pro X for mixing with Real Tracks and Live Tracks. Tom

Hi Tommy,

you know I love your vocals and harmonies.
Together with the guitars and the rest of the
arrangement this makes a great song.
Enjoyed listening several times.

Herb, Thanks. I think I've heard you play a very similar guitar lick before. I agree the high vocal ( which actually is the lead ) is a bit too loud. I intentionally made it louder than the lower harmony, but I may have overdone it. I'm not sure I can fix it. I bought a new computer and have been having problems moving things from one computer to the other. I was running so many plug-ins and so many tracks that the audio engine and the hard disk couldn't keep up and kept shutting down. Now I have moved the plug ins over to the new machine and many will only run on one machine at a time. Therefore cutting the volume on that one vocal track could turn out to be more than I want to tackle. Thanks for the fine review. Tom

ft my apartment and put everything in storage

Awesome intro line!! "storage" and "orange"-so clever but not a bit of a forced feeling. The song just grabs you from the first note, and that tele is SWEEEEET! Songs can be fun, or substantive, and in the case of a truly gifted writer (one Tommyad), they can be both. If there's anything wrong with this, I don't know what it is. You are writing some killer Tom!!! Take care. Greg

"left my apartment and put everything in storage

Sheeeesh!! What a setup for a great song. Bam, right
in the face...great lines and rhymes.

"I’m a drifter moving toward a random destination
searching for a sign of my salvation
But What the hell I’m only passing through "

Janice laser beamed right in on these three lines.
They are STRONG!

And they have a lot of company. Powerful write with
a ton of wonderful imagery.

And then...yeah...there are cool vocals, super pickin'
and a high bar Tom Adams production to wrap it
all up in. I'm an ole phart and I've heard a helluva lot
of "heading out on the road" songs but this one is
top of the chart.

J&B

"storage" and "orange" --- why can't I dream up that stuff?

Tom,

Another excellent write.

Another excellent production.

Terrific melody - very catchy. Terrific imagery and phrases... not easy to make this subject sound "fresh" - but you did...

Those drums sure sound good. Your guitar work on this is super. Great mix.

You are a pro. I am a fan.
