Hi All,
Since getting back into BB (2016 Everything) I have been mainly using RT's, which are excellent, but editing is obviously limited.
I have a SD2 which I haven't used for a while and would now like to incorporate it into BB.
But where I am stumped is how to access/input the multitude of additional sounds available within the SD2

I used to use VArranger2 which had an ins file allowing access to ALL the additional sounds, on top of the GM set.

I can only seem to direct BB to play the standard GM sounds, despite checking the higher level option.
I should say that the SD2 is driven by a Roland UM-One usb interface, as the SD2 only has standard midi connections.

Any advice would be really welcome.

Al

Change the MSB (Most significant bit).

My Ketron isn't up right now and neither is my music computer, but MSB0 is the GM bank, followed by MSB1, MSB2 for the others.

I don't know how to do that on BiaB (again music computer is off), because I export to Master Tracks Pro and do it there. It's in the patch change dialog in MTPro, and probably the same place in most other apps.

Al, you want a .PAT file for use in BIAB. Someone already wrote one and it's on this site under Support, Patch Maps. The direct link is http://nn.pgmusic.com/pgfiles/support/patchmaps/ketron_sd2.zip

An .INS file is used by a DAW.

Once you load the .PAT file, you should be able to access the sounds from the higher banks.

Thanks Al. By the way, Notes is correct about how it works, but BIAB makes it easy using the .PAT file, this way:

1) Right-click on a track name in the BIAB Mixer
2) Select MIDI PATCH
3) Select Higher Bank Patch (from .Pat file)
4) if you don't have one loaded, or it's the wrong one, find the one for the Ketron and then click the UPDATE button
5) you should now be able to scroll down through the patches.
6) caution: I don't know about the Ketron, but many of these .PAT files (I've written several)do not work correctly if you select an instrument at the top left, rather than leaving it at ALL PATCHES

And of course, before you do any of that above, go into BIAB Preferences, MIDI Output Driver, select the Ketron as the MIDI Output device, and uncheck the DXi box if it was checked. In the pull-down for Synthesizer/Sound Card, I don't think you will find an entry for the Ketron, so just select General MIDI Instrument Misc.

Questions/problems? Let us know. I don't use a Ketron so my directions are general. Others here are using it, though, and may have better ideas for the settings.

Be lost, get frustrated and many would throw up their hands and simply return the product within its 30 window. It is a very steep learning curve not for the faint of heart - just the nature of the beast in BIAB. With so much power comes great responsibility. And, if it were easy every one would be using it.

Kudos to those dedicated forum members who share their knowledge so generously. We know who you all are..... grin

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
