Can anybody tell me why I have no metronome? My "help - about" says I have Real Band 2016 (3). I just downloaded a patch dated late January.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

You probably just need to set it do something, e.g. as playback, and then it should display OK when you press play?

OK, I found out that enabling the metronome during playback while the song is playing, stops the song, plays the metronome, then starts the song again.

The metronome 'click-track' works, but there is no display during playback. I think this is normal for RealBand, happy to be corrected though.

Most all of the drum tracks provide a count in using a part of their kit.... When in BB it's 2 measures and in RB it's audio as 2 measures.

Heck, there's even some styles which have no drums in them that give you 2 measures of drums for the count in, then they go blank on the drum track.

This is for playing raw tracks into an empty track. I supposed I COULD generate a drum track, play what I need and then erase the drums, but the metronome is supposed to work, right?

Yes, it works, as a click track (audio).

Nope. Still no audio count in. The count down box is visible but there is no clicking sound.

What do you have set as default midi playback device? I had this issue before, don't remember exactly what fixed it, but, it had something to do with the last thing I had used for midi output driver. I think I had to move the Microsoft Wave Table synth to the top. Make sure it was not muted in my sound card properties. Then went back to my actual midi output driver or DXi for my song's sounds.
I'm pretty sure the metronome only uses the Microsoft Wave Table Synth.
Fiddle with that. Hope that's a good clue.

Yes, the metronome uses the default device for MIDI in PGMusic products and can't be changed to my knowledge, so you need to be able to hear your default MIDI device.

Make your sound your own!
.. I do not work here, but the benefits are still awesome

I believe you also have to leave a version of Windows Media Player (WMP) installed because the program uses WMP to play the metronome sound.

I had an issue where I removed WMP and relied solely on another media player. I had to reinstall WMP to get some items in BiaB to correctly work.

The thing about this is "Why"? Every version I have had until 2016, the metronome worked without me changing 7 settings. Right out of the box, hit the R to record, click click click click. Now suddenly I hear about WMP? What would make anybody think I would remove WMP from my computer that I need to check if it's there? I started with this software only 6 years ago and this issue just started. In 2013 it worked fine. All that changed on my computer was that I loaded 2016. No enabling, disabling, uninstalling.... After 34 years in computing, I know not to fix something that isn't broken. Just silly that I upgrade and things get broken.

I don't think there is a good answer other than I don't know. All I and other forum members can do is present ideas and options to try and resolve the issue.

Do you have metronome now?

Well, here's how the problems multiply, Jim. The first reply is usually "Search the forums". And I agree except that these forums have been around so long that every post has been replied to hundreds of times, so a search for "I stubbed my toe" returns not only the initial post but every reply to that post. That makes for hours of reading through replies that say "Ouch," and "Don't do that" because skipping through them may result in missing the real response. The help files here are the same help files on my computer. If I couldn't fix it reading the help files here, reading the same stuff online won't do it either. That leads me to the support email, where I am now sitting on 6 days of waiting with not even an acknowledgement that I sent in a support request.

And no, still no metronome. Followed all the suggestions I have gotten so far and still have a silent count in. It's not like I don't appreciate the attempts to help. My frustration is more with PG. WHY does something as simple as a count in metronome for recording work in a brand new software release?

As I said, I changed nothing since the 2013 version was replaced with the 2016, and now my metronome doesn't work. As I said earlier, WMP? Does anybody think I would really go out and open the add/remove programs to remove WMP? Even if I didn't use Real Band, what would possess me to even consider that?

All the things I COULD do. I could run a MIDI cable to my drum machine and use the rimshot as a count in. I could render drums and use that count in. I could do all those things. The key is, should I have to? I could tape a pillow to my steering wheel, but shouldn't the airbags work?

I get this irritated with ALL new software so I am not picking on PG.

Okay are you ready for this? I had to remove my interfaces and MIDI drivers and put them back. I did that 3 times before. THIS time, it worked. I have no idea why, and being a nerd, I would love to know.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
