I have a polytune plug-in tuner, which I would like to use on my PC either in RealBand or BIAB.

Their manual says the supported formats are:

AAX Native (32-bit/64-bit) (MAC/PC)
VST2.4 (MAC/PC)
VST3 (MAC/PC)

And they mention a lot of DAW software, where they have tested it, though not BIAB or RB. Somewhere I've read that BIAB and RB is older technology, but I'm not sure if this is the problem.

And not sure if this is the correct method, but when I register in the VSTi menu under options for CoyoteWT and choose the dll file, I get the error message:

"not a valid Win32 application"

Do you have any idea or work arounds?

I just read the manual that is available online. It doesn't say anything of any value about the necessary ressources. But your symptoms indicate a 64-bit software and BIAB/RB is 32-bit. You might investigate where the software is installed: Programs -- a 64-bit software -- or Programs (x86) -- a 32-bit software.

If it is indeed a 64-bit software you should acquire JBridge, to bridge the gap between 64-bit and 32-bit software.

I think the error message means you are trying to use a 64 bit VST inside the 32 bit Band-in-a-Box program.

Believe it or not, PG Music sells an accessory program called jBridge that lets you use 64 bit VSTs in Band-in-a-Box.

Edit: Answered the same time as GrincH. Great minds think alike!

Oh, jBridge costs $10 US through PG Music. There are other places that sell it but the version PG Music sells has been modified to work seamlessly with BiaB and RealBand.

Thanks. I think you are perfectly right about the 64 vs 32 bit.

The tuner in BIAB is not very good, and it's a pity. But the situation reminds me, that I recently bought the everything PAK, and realized it was not everything, if I didn't pay a little extra.

Anyway. If you know about any free software which makes it possible to use 64 bit plugin outside RB/BIAB, I would be glad to know.

So now I have bought the j-bridge, installed it and made a 32 bit dll file.

If I add the Polytune dll at my guitar track, i can actually see that it is working on what I have recorded.

Instead I want the tuner plug-in to be active and react on the guitar input signals, so I can use it to tune the guitar, but this I cant see how should work in RealBand. I have seen it work in youtube with other DAW, so I hope it's also possible with RB. Do you have any idea how?

Most of the "pro" DAWs have a function that allows you to hear the plugin's applied to the sound in real time as opposed to just on playback.... such as guitar sims and such. On Cakewalk's Sonar, it's a button in the Track Inspector window. Click it to hear the FX applied in real time. I don't know that BB/RB have that function. That would explain it not working in real time. I don't use BB/RB as a DAW so that function may exist, and I just don't know about it.

There are several other things about BB/RB that don't let it work with plugins like a "normal" DAW does, and I think it's in how it handles it's timing signals.

Good explanation. Do you know any working DAWs which has free limited editions?

I found that under audio setup in RB, it's possible to choose "enable input monitoring". And on the track list in VST menu, I can afterwards select plugin ins for a "input monitor insert".

If I then in the menu choose the standard inbuilt "PG Peaklimit", it has real time effect in my monitors. But my new registered Polytune tuner does nothing. I can see it and change some tuner settings, but there is no activity when I play.

Guess I should contact support and hope I at least can get the J-bridge refunded.

can you just sit the plugin into a vsthost http://www.hermannseib.com/english/vsthost.htm so it acts as a standalone tuner.

Inside RB go to your Audio settings and check the driver. You have to use ASIO and check the box that says ASIO Always On. That should allow you to hear it. ASIO is included with all interfaces but if you don't have one then download and install ASIO4ALL.

All the other DAW's mentioned use ASIO as well.

It may help to also enable the 'Input Monitoring' option in RB in the same area Bob mentions above..

Thanks guys. I am using ASIO drivers and have tried the input monitoring, but there is no response in the tuner interface.

The VST Host software can also not make it work, at least not right away, but maybe the problem is a kind of setup. I will read the manual, write to Polytune and maybe install a demoversion of a DAW software, which is tested with the product. I guess neither of them are free:

– Cubase (Mac/PC)
– Pro Tools (Mac/PC)
– GarageBand (Mac)
– Logic Pro (Mac)
– Ableton Live (Mac/PC)
– Studio One (Mac/PC)
– Reaper (Mac/PC)
– WaveLab (PC)
– Sonar Platinum (PC)
– Bitwig Studio (MAC/PC)

Without changing anything - it's suddenly working with input monitoring. It's not because of a RB restart, cause this I did yesterday many times, but maybe a windows restart has done something. Hope it will stay in good mood.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
