Having had the pleasure in co opting and corresponded with the most helpful and hardworking people that you could wish to meet in the music world, Rob and Anne-Marie from (RnAM) and witnessing their mastery in using BiaB, I was encouraged to go through the learning curve of one day posting my songs to the forum, despite my simplistic ability with the program.
So where to start I thought, well just like everyone, there had to be a ‘first with BiaB, and this was mine. No ‘Real tracks “ ? Not a clue at the time, no instrument volume balance, just pure Midi, trying to get a solo guitar strumm effect.
Am I not shy to post such a ‘raw’ performance, No, would I change it, add Real Tracks, No, even if offered a 20 piece orchestra as a backing I would not for now want to do so.
You see it is what it is… for me it was the day that PG music gave me, a non instrument playing songwriter, the freedom to become my own ‘session man, to express myself, linking my words with “my music”, and giving me the ability to express while reminiscing and softly singing it, my feelings, just a little tribute to the passing of a very brave, and much loved older brother.

A great song, but moreover a sensational dedication. Your lyrics are very beautiful.

Very nice to listen to, and a fantastic overall song.

Welcome to the Forum, Paddy.
Writing, performing, and recording a song, then putting it on the Internet so that the whole world can hear and critique it, can be daunting even for those with experience. Your love for your brother, coupled with your desire to tell the story has been a powerful motivator, and that my friend is how songwriting is born.
We're simply storytellers. Good job.

Hi Paddy!
Welcome to the forum! When Rob and Anne-Marie mentioned that you also used BIAB, I hoped that you would join our little group of friends and BIAB enthusiasts! And now you have!

I agree with what others have said about the engaging and sentimental quality of your lyrics in this song. I think it is risky trying to write words that stir the soul because in so many cases it comes across as a disingenuous attempt to manipulate the listener's emotions... but to my ears, your lyrics came across with sincerity and straight-forward expression of the singer's thoughts and reasoning. They communicate your message very well.

I also really liked your introduction! I found it to be unpretentious and full of evidence that it was spoken by a real person who brings real intellect and talent to the forum! I look forward to hearing more from you!

And with regards to your preference for MIDI: It's one of BIAB's strengths! PGMusic blazed new trails with their MIDI styles, and in my opinion, there's still no other music software company that implements MIDI the way they have! Its almost a shame that people have abandoned their MIDI tracks in order to use RT exclusively... especially with good synths, the MIDI is just PRICELESS! And I think you have used it well in this composition!

Your song is quite beautiful and very moving!

Anyway... welcome to the forum! Thanks to Rob & Anne-Marie for helping to get you here!

Paddy... long time since we last spoke.

What a huge, huge improvement in your music. PG was the thing you needed to get those musical ideas out and it's working for you.

This is a really good song. Nicely done too. Your voice started off a bit rough.... but as you got into the song, things quickly fell nicely into place. Kinda like you were a bit nervous as you started but then you relaxed and really nailed the performance.

There's all sorts of gems in this program.... can't wait to hear what you do as you discover some of them.

I'm impressed my friend. Nicely done.

Welcome Paddy!! This is really beautifully done. There is a great honesty and truthfulness that comes through. Your vocal is so natural and appealing. Beautiful tribute!! Out of curiosity, what kind of mic/preamp/audio interface are you using? Vocal is really well recorded and mixed. Post again soon! Take care. Greg

Beautifully done Paddy!
We like the chord progression especially on the choruses.
Good lyrics, and considering the fact that this is only MIDI makes it even more impressive for a first post.

I like your gentle spirit, Paddy! I'm glad you joined the group, and I predict you'll be a well liked and respected member here! And you're right that the common denominator here is a love for music ... that really does add value to life! Very profound words, with which I whole heartedly agree!

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
