I run BIAB 2014 from my laptop and customised the real tracks to fit on my C drive. This was complicated and time consuming (with help from support). My question is - when I upgrade to 2016 PRO, will I lose all the customised files and need to redo them? If so, is there a folder where I can find them and make a copy so I can bring it in to the new version?

Thanks

uhh, good question. But I'm confused, what is a c drive -no such thing on a MAC, perhaps your running windows via parallel? Did you install the realtracks on the OS drive or external/ other drive. Can BIAB (2014) realtracks installed to another partition separate from the OS drive? I thought that was possible. But since you mention c drive, I assume you have the files on the OS ( C ) drive??

Back up before you install or do anything, even if there were instructions by the installer or manual.

To clarify your question- for anyone to respond, does BIAB 2016 over write the previous version already installed, or does it install totally new standalone version.

sorry , its been awhile since I've used BIAB

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by customized RealTracks, other than having just moved the ones you use on a regular basis to the OS drive, and presumably all of them are still on the external USB drive?

When you upgrade to 2016, and you select to install over the current location, it will overwrite your files with (most likely) the same file that was already there (RealTracks don't change much, unless they were "fixed" by PGMusic for some reason); even then, it's usually the text offset descriptors that are changed, not the audio files themselves.

It won't look at your current configuration, however, and say "I'll just install the files I already see there.

That being said, you could upgrade to 2016, then do one of the installation options that leaves all the RealTracks/RealDrums on the external USB drive or whatever alternate location you specify. That will leave alone all the files you have on your OS drive. You can then go through the same process as before to move over the new RealTracks you might be interested in to your OS drive. That preserves the larger set on the external USB drive, and let's you just use the ones you want on your OS drive (after telling BIAB that's where they're located).

I hope I made sense, or did I miss something here?

You don't upgrade the program its actually a reinstall of the whole program so you are overwriting all the old files.

Get help from PG support. If you did a custom, time consuming 2014 install. Don't start installing 2016 on your own. Call support right from the start, and let them guide you through the install. That is a guaranteed solution. If you start on your own and run into a snag, you may not get the results you want. And you will definitely be on the phone trying to undo the situation.

One thing you want to make sure you have a copy of all your BIAB songs files.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
