Each bar has two input fields. In each field you can enter two chords separated by a comma: C,C6 F,F6/9

Sure sounds easy but if I use slash chords with different bass notes like on this image !

How do I write those chords in. I cant find the key for the slash /

The / simply doesn't work !

If I use the chord builder it just jumps 2 quarters every time ???

Enter Bb (first beat of the bar)

click in the 2nd half of the bar with your mouse

enter Eb/Bb,Bb7

On the USA keyboard the / is next to the period

Are you using a USA keyboard?

For the slash key, use the key that is to the left of the RIGHT Shift key.

It just give me a minus sign which turns into a b when I continue ???

Doesn't matter if I use CTRL or Shift with it ???

I hope I am not the first Swede that uses Slash chords with BB smile

The song wouldn't happen to be in 3/4 time, would it?

I'll be interested in Trevor's response, but I can offer that Joe Zawinul likely did not record any RealTracks.

I should have clarified. I don't use BiaB as a complete orchestral arranger that creates and plays an entire tune and needs absolutely nothing else. I use it to create exceptional backing tracks, then I play my own melody - play-along, so to speak.

So that's what I meant by 'Some things are not up to BiaB, some things are up to the user!' Add your own cool licks.

However, there are some users who create some chords and just use the Melodist to make the whole song. Nothing more to add. That's OK, but certainly not my way.

Hope this clears up my meaning.

Trevor

I was referring more to the way the rhythm section plays.
There is a lot of accents and stops here and there that makes this tune stick out !

I also use BIAB mainly for backing tracks.

Magicaldog, look in the Help, Index for Pushes, Shots and Holds. You can do a great deal of customizing by using those. For specific hits, I often use MIDI in either the Melody or Soloist track, and just write them in.

For me BiaB is a wonderful tool to help me make my own backing tracks. But I've never made a backing track that is 100% BiaB.

I have made backing tracks that are zero percent BiaB in those cases where there just isn't an appropriate style for the song I want to do.

I always export BiaB to a sequencer or DAW and improve it.

Here's how:
http://www.nortonmusic.com/backing_tracks.html

Don't get me wrong, BiaB is a wonderful tool and it does what it does better than any of the competition. The output is better than a mediocre band and in some cases as good as a very good band, but I want to up that output to sound like a top-notch band.

There is more than one right way to make music, and there is more than one right way to use BiaB, it's just my way.

Yep. Biab is designed to make generic backing tracks based on whatever style is used. Nowhere does it say any one style is supposed to be a perfect cover for a classic song like Mercy.

Imagine there was such a style. What other tune could you use it for? Even if you changed the chords and tempo, the elements of the style would still sound like Mercy.

If you want those song specific licks and rhythms, you'll have to do them yourself of find a good midi file that has them. They are available btw. There are midi's out there that are close to perfect but most are not free, they're on pay sites.

This forum is all about us nerds wanting to do it ourselves, where's the fun is simply buying a midi file that was produced by studio pros?

At the request of one of my customers, I did a style based on Elvis Presley's "Don't Be Cruel". It had the song-specific guitar figure in it and turned out pretty well but it made me notice two things:
  1. It would have been easier to sequence the song from scratch on a DAW or MIDI sequencer than to make the style and try go coax BiaB to play the parts at the right time
  2. The style is basically good for "Don't Be Cruel" and that's it. As soon as the guitar lick comes around, it says "Don't Be Cruel" no matter what other song you might try to use it in

That taught me that auto-accompaniment styles, like those in BiaB need to be generic, and not song specific. Which means any song specific parts must be put in afterwards in Real Band, a MIDI sequencer or the DAW of your choice.

Danny, all you did was put the thread back on track! It became somewhat "diversified" along the way. No harm done. Lots of good ideas were articulated.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
