I think it's through Landr or uses Landr to compress your music. Ian

Sixchannel, following you now. I love your tracks. Reminds me of Burt Weedon and the Shadows etc.

I guess that for most folks, (non-home recording enthusiasts)... this is a great deal.
I'll roll my own thank you.
You can find my music at: www.herbhartley.comAdd nothing that adds nothing to the music. You can make excuses or you can make progress but not both. The magic you are looking for is in the work you are avoiding.

I used LANDR didn't seem to sound much different to me. Ive tried it too. On the low compression I reckon I do a better job manually. On their Max loudness, it just crushes the Life out of all the little nuances i hid in their for the listener to find. Smile! Cheers Ian

"Mastering" a 128kbps MP3? It's a cylinder effect Mastering engineer Bob Katz seems to imply in the interview linked below that there is a way to properly master a MP3 file. However most people do it (improperly) themselves because of the additional cost. ++ Bob Katz interview link ++

However most people do it (improperly) themselves because of the additional cost. ++ Bob Katz interview link ++ He prefers to encode the MP3 from the master, though. "...you can get a marginally better sounding MP3 if you take it from the 24-bit file that precedes the 16-bit file on the CD. The MP3 encoders can do it a little bit better if they are given a higher resolution as the source." Soundcloud is taking a 128kbps MP3 and "mastering" that. What dynamic range? Regards, Bob

Its just SC trying to justify their rates with new features. If somebody big doesn't buy them soon I'm afraid we will all need a new playground for our songs.

I don't think that's true, not your first statement anyway. As far as I can tell even the free soundcloud accounts have access to this service? But yeah, no question they are having financial problems. Hopefully they will pull it together because although the site is far from perfect, it is, in my opinion, the best site out there for uploading music.

Yawn is right. You have to EQ every track and use a little art in the final mix with many tools at your disposal to get the right kind of separation (and the right kind of compression) if you have real music. If you are just sampling beats and doing trance music, who cares, go and ahead and sound like everyone else I guess. I like sounding like myself, but that's just me I guess. There is NO SUCH THING AS INDUSTRY STANDARD MASTERING OR SOUND. That is more of a goofy sales gimmick than the tough blades ads running on T.V. I wish people who stop trying to sell this silly concept. It is absurd. If you are writing real music every song is different, and every mix is different, and every final master is different. Unless, of course, you are writing garbage, then it doesn't matter. As Herb said I prefer to roll my own. Good one Herb.

Landr seems to be the big player in this online mastering business now.
They also have some sort of partnership with CDBaby, I get messages from CDBaby pushing LANDR on a regular basis.
They are supposed to do more than just take a song and compress it. From the CDBaby site: "Our powerful cloud-based mastering tool is driven by algorithms that understand the nuances that make every song unique." and "LANDR listens to and understands and applies a custom set of tools and parameters for each song."
I have never tried it myself, but I probably will at some point, why not? Nothing to lose, they give you a free preview, if you like it then you can pay for it.

Yeah CDBaby ran our stuff thru whatever they are using (landr?) before feeling free to post it to youtube .. what a mess. I had to go put the CD on to make sure it really didn't sound like that ..

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option
Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!
Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!
For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.
Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!
Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.
Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!
If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
