So, yeah .. my wife is the ULTIMATE critic when it comes to music.
She listened to some of my music created in BIAB where I did NOT play an instrument and observed that there is no smooth transition from one lead to another lead instrument.
Is there a way that notes can be extended from one to another instrument to make it sound more natural?
It sure would help. Yes, it can be done in a DAW, but why have to go through trouble?
Thanks for your input.
Cheers, Mike

Yes, in a real band (with humans) often the next player will play one or two bars of 'pickup notes' leading them into their particular solo or specific section. I don't think that BiaB currently does that at such a level.
+1 Good idea!

RealBand has a setting to extend or reduce audio regeneration beyond the highlighted area. It's one of the main reasons I move from BiaB to RealBand after I've sorted out the song structure.
There are ways of improving transitions and adding more instruments than the track count allows within BIAB without moving to RB or a DAW.
Multiple instruments can occupy a single track. Using the Song Settings - 2 bars before changing instruments on a track, select the Fade per Bar option for the track. Use a small number and you will likely have to experiment a bit. 8-12 work for most of my songs. After the two bar 'fade out', select the bar where the new instrument starts and select Back to Normal for the track. According the the particular song, it may also work to leave a blank bar between transitions if the track has a choppy transition. I have gotten transitions as smooth sounding as if they were done in a DAW using this technique.
This technique of including multiple instances of instruments on different tracks and 'sharing' a track between multiple instruments can create a doubling effect or pan an instrument.

Good point. How nice it would be if this feature, and its related one - regenerate parts of a track - could be available in BIAB.

+1 If RealBand can do it, surely so can BiaB.

But since RB was clearly designed and included to work in conjunction with BIAB to do this specific task and take the production capabilities even further, why waste resources on what we already have? Working between RB and BIAB is no more time consuming or difficult than importing tracks from a folder... Including regeneration in BIAB in my opinion would be a major cause in users never learning all the other benefits and features RB brings to our arsenal of tools.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
