I was excited when I saw that BIAB 2016 had some surf music Real Tracks. However, in trying to use them to create backing tracks for live recordings, I've noted that the tracks are so drenched in reverb, that when I use them to play live, it sounds like a completely different band has taken the stage. I understand that heavy reverb was part of the "surf sound", but is there any way to use these tracks without the reverb? If not has anyone one discovered a way to lessen the reverb on these tracks?
Is the problem specific RealTracks, or the combination of RealTracks within a RealStyle? If the latter, you may be able to look at the individual RealTracks that compose the RealStyle and see if they come as DI versions (which will be dry). That might be enough to fix your problem, and of course, you could add your own effects as desired.
Look in RealTracks Picker at the DI column, which PGMusic describes as:
Quote:
"Direct Input Available” has a letter “y” if the instrument offers the option of clean recordings without effects. This allows you to start with a clean track and add your own effects.
You would need to then re-select that RealTrack with the "Direct Input" checkbox checked.

For the drums, could you not take off the reverb on the mixer?
The problem is that there is reverb on the track without any additional being applied. You could definitely "not add any more", but that doesn't get rid of the reverb contained in the already recorded audio content.

))) Perhaps you can post a request for dry tracks in the wishlist. That would give others the opportunity to better express their thoughts.
There are already dry versions available in the direct input folder of the RealTracks folder. Just select direct input as discussed above. That makes the guitars dry.
Thanks for everyone's input. I was able to use both the surf guitar and surf bass Real Tracks with the the "Direct Input" checkbox checked. This really helped once I added my own reverb. The issue with the original surf guitar and surf bass Real Tracks was that there was so much reverb that the backing tracks that I created sounded sound much different from all my others. As mentioned, it was as if another band had taken the stage.
Thanks again and keep those surf Real Tracks comin'.

I wasn't aware dry tracks are available. Thanks for the correction!

Wow. I wasn't aware that they were either. This program is like a huge onion; you peel back a layer, and there is another layer!

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
