Hi Trygve, I've been a huge fan of Bach for decades. The Brandenburg Concertos are great! If you want a model for developing musical and arranging prowess, J. S. Bach's compositions are magnificent. There's a great deal to be learnt from studying them and playing around with them. What you have done here is a terrific start and I encourage you to continue your journey. Some suggestions (in no particular order, they just occurred to me as I listened)... One thing with Bach is that even though when one analyses his works, it can be seen that very sophisticated chords occur in his music (in fact, pretty much the whole jazz spectrum by today's standards), Bach did not write using chords. His musical texture was arrived at by the intersections of melodies and counter-melodies. (The chords we have today were not invented at Bach's point in time.) When you are looking to treat Bach from a chordal perspective, I've usually found that it's most effective when kept simple and a minimal number of instruments are used - certainly when beginning the journey of learning. In your present arrangement, there are areas of muddiness due to too many different things happening at once (at least that's how my ears heard it). Here's something to try... Use the internet to find a midi file of "Sheep May Safely Graze" (below is a Youtube link to a version by St Martin's In The Field under the baton of Sir Neville Mariner - one of my favourite presentations). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1nyzGR3tUEAnd here's a trio of the same music... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l-HCLEwDh6cWhen you have the file, load it in to BIAB or Realband so that the chords will be determined. Keeping only the melody and the bass (this is probably easiest to do in RB by muting everything else), add (say) a nylon guitar Realtrack, use a midi flute for the melody and a midi bowed bass for the bass-line. generate the Realtrack and see how flute, guitar, bowed bass sounds. As the trio Youtube clip above shows, it's not necessary to overload Bach's music with instruments. It can be very effective when orchestration is minimal. From the above, take one of the midi counter-melodies (the one below the flute is probably best) and bring this in and out of the mix. An oboe or clarinet might be a good choice of sound. In relation to the chords, try to have no more than two in a bar. In fact, for most bars, see if you can cover them with a single chord (this may or may not be possible all that often). The above are only suggestions. Please feel completely free to toss them in the trash. You've done a great job so far! Don't stop now! All the best, Noel P.S. I've just found Boehm's arrangement of Brandenburg Concerto #3 AT THIS LINK. Another Boehm's arrangement of a different Bach piece can be found AT THIS LINK. This has great potential but the mix doesn't give a clear indication of what should be the focus at any one time.

There is 600 classic BiaB files in BiaB's, so dont know if I have to look further to find something to work with for a loooong time... I listen to Boehm's track and it was awesome ! I did not know what to expect opening this posting, but the underpinning of it with a modern Brent guitar really threw me. You know what,, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Your versatility is amazing

Very nice music, and a good job arranging!! I do not really like the high string sample, if that's what it is. It's shrill and too loud. Other instruments sound quite sweet. Nice job! Take care. Greg

Let me pose this as a question to a question, on the question as to whether it "works."
Do you think there is the tiniest, tiniest chance that Sir Paul McCartney ever opened a bottle of Johnny Walker Red Label, maybe with a yellow submarine on the side, fooled around with some Bach chords and stuff on a four track all night long and then sometimes towards morning went, "Blackbird Singing in the dead of night..."
If the answer to that question is yes or even maybe, then your experiment was a huge success and you should keep doing it.

I'm with Greg the strings are a bit loud in the mix sometimes the guitar gets a bit lost - would be nice with the guitar and an accordian?
Has a lot of potential.
