  • Fixed: 'MIDI QWERTY Keyboard Wizard' feature was not working.
  • Added: "Play when chosen" option added to StylePicker.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for notice on the August 3 update.

Did you ever talk to the developers about the 2 ongoing issues - one of which you admitted must be a bug. This is now the second new new build where nothing has been done

1) Loop function ceases to work on highlighted bars after hitting stop (this was something in a previous post you had admitted must be a bug) THIS IS LOST FUNCTIONALITY OF MUCH EARLIER VERSION OF BIAB THAT USED TO DO THIS!

2) the ability to have a new Preferences playback option to allow playback to ALWAYS start from a given bar in a song even after hitting stop THIS IS ALSO LOST FUNCTIONALITY OF MUCH EARLIER VERSION OF BIAB THAT USED TO DO THIS!

Both these features would streamline practice sessions in a big way.

sincerely, Carlos del Junco

Hi Andrew,

Ahah! My bad. (apologies, I didn't want to seem like I was shouting with my all caps on ;-)

I just talked with tech support (albeit, for the fourth time over the last 4 months), and this fellow was able to solve the problem. It was simply a matter of deselecting "Move current cell when playback stops" Now both of the above functions work as I remember them.

Apologies for making a big deal about this...but then, I wish the other tech support guys could have figured this out sooner!

:-)

cheers, Carlos

CarlosdelJunco,

Thank you for taking time to share the solution with everyone.

It always amazes me how one setting, that seems insignificant, can effect the method of operations in such a significent manner. It is sometimes difficult to visualize the full meaning of a statement like, "The default setting of "X" was changed from unchecked to checked" or vice-versa.

thanks Andrew,

Actually, after playing with the loop function a bit yesterday, and again, talking to tech support just now: The LOOP FUNCTION IS STILL NOT WORKING as it used to in the "old days" pre 2010.

So again, (on a MAC) Loop function ceases to work on highlighted bars after hitting stop with the space bar (Andrew, this was something in a previous post you had admitted must be a bug). One must go back into the menu and re-select "play and loop highlighted region"

Yet again...hoping this can be fixed in the next build! Although, I am becoming doubtful, as it hasn't been fixed in the last two builds.

sincerely, Carlos

The "Move current cell when playback stops" setting was added in the last build, which is why nobody could find it before.

Regarding the Loop topic, I believe what we should have is a hotkey to "Play and Loop highlighted region", and/or a separate menu item to enable looping of the highlighted region which would either be checked or unchecked. Would you agree?

thanks Andrew,

Ok, So I am not losing my mind... ;-) good to hear that the new playback option was just added - and thanks for helping make that happen. Had you mentioned in the notes on the new build(?)...maybe I just missed it.

Yes, a hot key to initiate loop function might be better but ideally whether or not a hot key is set up, once the loop function was enabled with the set number of bars, that the spacebar would then stop and start playback of those selected bars on a continued basis until when deciding to stop the loop function (after a few stops and starts with "spacebar") , that that hot key (or a different hot key) would then take one out of the loop function. Make sense..?

regards, Carlos

Any idea when the next patch release for Mac is available and whether the DAW export will work for files where Real Tracks and Midi are combined?

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
