Hi All. A busy life has kept me away from the forum more than I would like recently and I think this is only my second song this year.

Many of you know me as being firmly stuck in the 80s, but The Blues has always been my first love and for this one, I wanted to get away from the traditional 12 bar, so I've come up with an 8 bar and a more jazzy feel. For those of you who are interested in such things, I tracked the guitars and vocal through a 1960s British valve amplifier made by a company called RSC and used an old Shure Unidyne 3 microphone which I've had for ever. For the drums, I used the Drum Source sample player with our own samples. For the snare drum we made a new sample using an old Premier wooden snare, with a loose head and snare and recorded it very dry using the same mic about two feet above the drum. There are very few other effects used, other than compression from an old Drawmer valve compressor, a bit of chorus on the guitars and a short reverb here and there. The guitar was my old Telecaster. I'm hoping that the result has an old style recording feel to it.

The RTs are:
Tenor Sax RT404, Baritone Sax RT2135, Bass RT 564 and the Piano was a midi Supertrack with a patch from Forte.

Every Time I See Your Face
I like to think, I'm not in love
That I'm still in control when push comes to shove
But I know I've got it bad, every time see your face

Well people say, my heart is cold
I play it cool so that no one gets a hold
But I know I've got it bad, every time I see your face

They say I've got, a heart of stone
They say it's better that I'm happy on my own
But I know I've got it bad, every time I see your face

I say that love, it's just a game
I love 'em and I leave ' em and it's always been the same
But I know I've got it bad, every time I see your face

As always, many thanks to anyone who has the time to listen.

Cheers, ROG.

Yes, different from your usual but the quality is there as always. Enjoyed this from start to finish. Nice touch on the whistle finish.

Nice! I like the way you phrase your vocals. Great tone on the guitar and tasteful playing, right in the pocket. Very much enjoyed!

ROG,

Definitely different from your usual work! But the challenge is to keep evolving ;-) we always appreciate people doing that.
And once again, like Charlie said the quality is there.
Your vocals and the timbre of your voice often reminds us of Radiohead (I'm sure you'll find that a compliment).
About the 80s, and being stuck in that, well we can definitely relate. I think that era is one of the most interesting ones ever. Lots of different styles than, but usually melodic and catchy.

ROG,

Great "live" sound/feel to this.

The vocal is super. Filled with "nonchalant attitude".

Sax, piano, guitar all right were they need to be. Drums fit perfectly.

This really sticks with you well after it finishes..

Ah Rog, this reminds me of why you are one of my forum favorites!

I like the rhyming scheme of:

rhyme
rhyme
place holder
rhyme
rhyme
resolve place holder

I like the words you chose for your rhymes too: "shove" + "love" for example

what a great gritty live sound! Love the sound of a valve amp!

As blues go, this is an interesting variation on the standard 1-4-5 blues progression.

I always enjoy the high quality of your own playing in the mix. Great sound!

Rog,

Great blues! I like the 1/2/5 progression! Everything fits nicely. Who doesn't love an old Telecaster? (Mine's named "Trigger") smile

+1 to FJ - I couldn't agree more.

This is a great listen from start to finish. Loved that whistling ending and vocal attitude. What a cool song.

Everything is right in the pocket.

Well done ROG.

Oh man -- it's got that loose (in the great way) feel that we absolutely love -- just oozing around the soundstage. It's like we were sitting in the middle of the third row in a small venue listening to a blue band that's been together for years. And your vocal and playing shine.

We listen to the blues every day and this is nailed!

Thanks for the backstory on how you put this together. And, yup, old Tele's are good.

No need to parse it out..EVERYTHING works.

This is a stellar addition to our SC favorites playlist.

Hi Charlie. Thanks for the listen and review. Pleased you enjoyed it and spotted the whistle on the fade. If I have to fade, I do like to put something different on it!

Thanks, Dave. I tend to phrase vocals in the same way as I play guitar, so I'm glad you think it works. Thanks also for the nice comment about the guitar.

Many thanks, Alyn. You'll often find me wandering off into the distance whistling, sometimes just wandering off!

Hi Rob. Radiohead? Yeah, I can live with that! Thanks for all the nice comments and maybe I'll be back in the 80s next time.

Hi ROG
Thanks for giving the run down on how this track was made. Very interesting. Love, love that laid back blues. The piano is the cherry for me.Very cool song.

Very cool in every way!! Great energy, very natural organic feel, great vocal. Everything works the way it should. The only thing that bothered me a little (just a preference thing) is the chorus/flange sound on the piano. I feel like the piano should sound more traditional in this type of song. Love this!!! Take care. Greg

Many thanks, Pat. I thought I was chancing it a bit with "shove" + "love"!
Yeah, valve amps are great, as long as you don't have to carry them up flights of stairs - my memories of playing live are that concert rooms were always upstairs. Can't beat that sound, though.
Thanks again for the listen.

Greg

Hi Greg. Many thanks for the review. That's my old Telecaster in my avatar picture. I've got a few guitars, but if I could only have one it would have to be the Tele. Fortunately, I've had it so long that I didn't pay a collectors price for it! Not named it yet though! Cheers.

Hi Kenny. Glad you liked it. Yeah, Radiohead - couldn't ask for more than that. Many thanks.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
