Recently I get this yellow message on BB Start Up. This is before the GUI even appears. I'm not aware that I have changed anything. I DO have this drum style and AFAIK I have every update and specials pack since 2008. Any ideas what it actually means and if I should kill it off - how? Cheers ian

Old Guys Rule.The older I get,the better I was! BB2023 ULTRA, 1013, Win 7 and 10
I've seen this. It's random but I believe it is related to running out of RAM. If you reboot and don't load any other programs, you should not get the error.
That's an unscientific guess, though, about the cause. Sunspots would be an equally valid hypothesis.

I'm with the Sunspot theory, Matt. I run BB with nothing else running, even the anti-virus is turned off. Giving more thought to your first comment though -Maybe it IS a RAM thing. Because I like it, and because so much of my music software is ancient and won't run on modern systems, I run Win XP Pro, which is, as you know, limited to how much RAM I can have. Best regards Ian

It wasn't actually XP that has the limit; it's that you very likely have a 32-bit version of XP Pro. That limits you to addressing 4GB no matter how much RAM you installed. And of that 4, XP takes some, so in practice you really are working with 3.2 GB maximum. But if all you run at one time is BIAB, that is not the cause of your problem UNLESS you are running a massive software synth. What do you use for sound?

Yes Matt, its the 32 bit. No software synth other than the Coyote Forte. No midi keyboard, only the QUERTY one. Card is a Creative Audigy and suits me fine. I mostly use RTs, these days only rarely dipping in to the midi styles or instruments. Never been able to get Hi-Q Sampletank to work so ignore that part of BB. BB is an amazing concept and program. Also, I went around and around with the HQ instruments for weeks. I was in contact with support about it plus of course the forum. Never got it working on my old Win 7 system. I did the Win 10 upgrade on my new system you see in my sig and everything is perfect.
I know so many people believe in "Hey it still works, why upgrade?".
Yes guys, sadly i know its 4gb. It is what it is so BB and I work within its constraints - slow re-gen box checked for example. Bob, if Newer were Free I'd be right there at the head of the queue. But limited resources does mean that IF I upgrade to Win7 or 10, I'd have to replace a lot of software too. No chance. So old is good. Lol! Ian

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.
Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows® Today!
Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
