More Jazz Piano Soloists!
Please give us double time solos (16th notes), at least for the slower tempos till 180bpm!!!!!!
Also higher tempos like Bebop: 240 -340 bpm (not so much double time needed here, though ;-)

RIFF for known songs like: (+ according style)
Hancock: Watermelon Man, Cantaloupe Isand
Zawinul: Mercy, Mercy, Mercy
etc,..

In the area of pop, how about some Elton John-style arpeggiated piano comping- something like what he played in "Tiny Dancer". Or like the piano in Cat Stevens' "Morning Has Broken".

I'd rather like some of this too......

I just realised that there isn`t a single Jazz Ballad and Bebop Piano soloist, not even in the new RTs. So PLEAZE:

PIANO BALLAD SOLOIST (JAZZ)
PIANO BEBOP (190bpm +) SOLOIST (JAZZ)

Would be great to finally have 'Rubato' style playing and comping for introductions and ballads ....for use on its own or with a non-metric bass and drum style. Pianist/educator Hal Galper has a record out called 'Furious Rubato' which is like a primer for this kind of playing applied to well known standards . Other good examples recently though are ECM piano trios like Bobo Stenson's , John Coltrane ballads performances after 1965 ...too many to mention really

What would be nice is if PG provided a template so musicians around the world could record their OWN "real track" samples and those could be added to PG's collections, a kind of 'open source' idea on the template with potentially commissionable submissions by the musicians? Think of the growth potential of Real Tracks then! :-)

TallPaul - what a genius idea!

Let me say that again just so Peter might hear:

That's a genius idea!

Not so tall Paul

Yes, several of us have been asking about this idea as early as beta testing of the original Real Tracks two years ago. There is a proprietary process PG Music uses that is not available to end users.

Interestingly, it is possible to make your own Real Drums, yet no one (that I am aware o)f has marketed any. Still, it would be nice to be able to produce our own Real Tracks.

Obviously not the riffs themselves, but the same feel as the following:

Billy Joel - Movin' Out, New York State Of Mind, My Life, Scenes From An Italian Restaurant
Bruce Hornsby - The Way It Is, Mandolin Rain
Elton John - Levon, Honky Cat, Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me
Billy Vera - At This Moment
Rich Mullins - Sing Your Praise To The Lord (the arpeggiated middle part), Elijah, If I Stand
Mark Schultz - He's My Son, Legend of McBride, When You Give, Remember Me
Styx/Dennis De Young - Lady, Babe, Come Sail Away
Barry Manilow - Mandy, Weekend In New England, Even Now, I Was A Fool (To Let You Go)
Paul McCartney - Maybe I'm Amazed

Thanks for the consideration.

- Dave McKenna (Stride, "3-handed swing")
- Heavily syncopated but sparse jazz comping
- Left hand staying out of the way of the bass player

- Dave McKenna

Pat, welcome to the forum. I played a concert with Dave McKenna. Thanks for the memory. Good style example.

I think some nicely intense Billy Joel-style tracks would do very well -- patterned after "Angry Young Man", "Zanzibar" and/or "Our Italian Restaurant"; "Big Man On Mulberry Street"; and "Summer: Highland Falls". I think one inspired by "She's Always A Woman To Me" would be very useful for a lot of styles.

Something Steinman-ish and Bruce Hornsby-ish would also be way cool. Basically, stuff with -- how shall I put this? -- a lot more energy than some of the pop styles we currently have.

Best,
Tom Smith

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
