Hi

RB: making a click track to a short audio file. Then aligning to the click track.
Saving both as *.SEQ and *.SGU and with the audio as *.WAV.
BB: no synch between play start of BB and audio. Tempo map in *.SGU from RB looks ok.
BB cuts audio file.

Is this as good as it gets?

cheers Thomas

Hi Thomas.

Two things to try. One if you are using version 2016 and the other is just BIAB in general.

BiAB needs the audio file to have two bars of silence at the beginning. You can set this in RB as there is an offset button you would select. The tracks would then list as -2,-1,0,1,2 and so on.

With the current build of BIAB, imported audio has to be adjusted.
Open the audio editor, there is an icon on the main screen.

Rt click with your mouse on the audio file and select - the
Permanently apply Bar 1 offset to track by deleting or inserting silence.

Hope that helps. Also, I just made a post in the Recording, Mixing,Performance and Production Discussion Group about syncing audio with BIAB/RB generated tracks.

Hi Charlie

Thanks for your advice.

For some reason the audio file is not complete when saved in RB with audio. Is this the acidizing by RB corrupting what I believed to be the original wav?
So in BB I imported the original wav that was used in the first instance with RB.
Carried on with Audio Edit in BB, however "Permanently apply bar 1 .."was greyed out.
Select Whole and then right click and select "Mark this point bar 1.." and then it's possible to do the "Permanently apply bar 1 ..."
Play and audio does seem to synch with BB however it's erratic, e.g. when reaching bar 3 beat 2 it jumps back to bar 3 beat 1 and continues.

Don't know if I should cry of laugh ...

Read your referenced posting and listened in on your efforts in soundcloud. Sounded very good and this is what I'm after, giving new life to old recordings.

Thomas, whether in Band in a box or RealBand, if you import audio, the audio has to go through a process in order to follow a chord progression and tempo map.

In BIAB, this is done by processing the audio through the Audio Chord Wizard, which creates a tempo map, determines the key signature and analyzes and import the chords onto the chord sheet.

In RB, you can use the ACW in the same way or manually create a click track if you have 2016 version.

In either program, even if you record audio live, there still must be a tempo map and completed chord sheet for audio and BIAB to sync.

The problem you are describing appears that a wav or mp3 with the same name as your BIAB song is being imported into BIAB. If you have a BIAB project named Abc.sgu and an audio file in the same folder where the BIAB sgu file resides named Abc.Wav, BIAB will open that audio file into Abc.sgu project when you open the project.

If you create a chord progression in BIAB and record yourself playing along with the BIAB song, you are following along with the existing tempo map and chords in the key of the song. If you are attempting to import pre-recorded audio into A BIAB project, then BIAB has to be given the tempo, chord progression and key signature in order to play along with the music.

I hope I'm understanding your issue and giving the correct advice to help get your old recordings into BIAB/RB and have them play nice with the software.

Charlie

Charlie

thanks for the additional input.
I am with you all the way but the software is not ...

Did a lot of testing and got the impression that it got more stable fully closing the BB/RB before opening RB/BB. Previously I just closed the current project/song. Maybe just imagination.

Anyhow made some questions on another of your contributions on tempo matching.

I always only have one or the other program open. I have also found doing that allows the open program to run with more stability.

I have tried to answer your questions in my post in Recording, Performance and Production forum.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
