I'm a Noob to Real Band. I think I've figured out how to use some elements of it, but I have a couple questions. Forgive me if these sound ridiculous. I am using the soft synth TTS-1 from Cakewalk to get more realistic Midi sounds. I haven't found and VST/DX add-ons to get and use audio effects such as compression, reverb, gate, etc. Can anyone suggest an easy to use, easy to get VST/DX that won't break the bank. I'm starting out learning the basics before I commit very much $$$. Thanks.

Logon to hitsquad,

http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/freeware/PLUGINS_VST/

The page I have above is the free VST page however there are also shareware, demos and paid pages. Hitsquad has a lot of other pages dedicated to just about anything you could think of. Also this is a legit site, i.e. no pirateware what so ever.

Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up.
Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

A good starter pack is the free Reaper plugins
http://www.reaper.fm/reaplugs/

That along with Classic compressor (vocals) and Ambience (a reverb with a LOT of control) are the first things I'll load on a system I am asked to work on.

Classic Pak -

Ambience -
http://magnus.smartelectronix.com/
Magnus worked with James Chandler Jr (former PGMusic staff) to work out a bug Ambience had in Powertracks, I've liked this reverb for a long time. A reverb with MIDI Learn, EQ, and EQ on the damping adds a lot of control.

All the above are a light load on the system. I've run 20-30 instances of these many many times, though usually I'll use Ambience in an AUX slot so I can share it for consistency. Makes everything sound like it's in the same room that way.

These are all free. Free VSTs will get you a long way. The first one I'd recommend spending money on is Ozone.
Worth every penny, but costs quite a few of them.

You mentioned Cakewalk and TTS. Can I assume you have a cakewalk DAW then?

Most of my songs are done with the default Cakewalk plugs..reverb, compression and EQ.... the one and only other plug I use in this line of "FX" is Ozone. The cake plugs and effects are very good effects and do a fine job, and if you have a Cake DAW, you already have them.

I love me some Ozone. However, Ozone is considered to be costly by some folks..... but IMHO, worth every dollar you pay for it.

Get the free time limited Ozone Demo..... but be prepared to buy it when you do because you will never want to mix without it ever again.

Thanks to all who answered, and Herb, I do have Cakewalk Music Creator 6 but I wasn't aware that it came with any FX. Maybe it doesn't if you're talking about Sonar, but I'll have to look again. Told you I was a rookie, eh?

You may need to simply locate the dll files for the plugins using the 'Add VST' option in Realband.

Many of us use VSTs in RB that came with other products.
That's the beauty of VSTs.

I believe if you have Cakewalk or Sonar you also have the Sonitus effects plug ins available.

I am using the new 1040XTRAEZ form this year. It has just 2 lines.

1. How much did you make in 2023?
2. Send it to us.

It absolutely does have a bunch of FX in it. Reverbs, gates, compression, EQ, and more.... all are there and ready to load and work. No need to look for DLL files or add the FX. I call them the Cakewalk factory defaults and they are all pretty good.

Cake started including a few Sonitus plugs but I'm not sure if they are in MC6.... but if they are, they too are ready to roll.

If you need help finding them, be sure to drop by the MC forums on the cakewalk website.

The Band-in-a-Box® Flash Drive Backup Option

Today (April 5) is National Flash Drive Day!

Did you know... not only can you download your Band-in-a-Box® Pro, MegaPAK, or PlusPAK purchase - you can also choose to add a flash drive backup copy with the installation files for only $15? It even comes with a Band-in-a-Box® keychain!

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Backup copies are offered during the checkout process on our website.

Already purchased your e-delivery version, and now you wish you had a backup copy? It's not too late! If your purchase was for the current version of Band-in-a-Box®, you can still reach out to our team directly to place your backup copy order!

Note: the Band-in-a-Box® keychain is only included with flash drive backup copies, and cannot be purchased separately.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Band-in-a-Box® 2024 Review: 4.75 out of 5 Stars!

If you're looking for a in-depth review of the newest Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows version, you'll definitely find it with Sound-Guy's latest review, Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows Review: Incredible new capabilities to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs.

A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."

"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."

"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
