I have imported an mp3 file into the audio track. The song is in Eb. I'd like to be able to change that, but can't seem to. It's always in Eb. Is that how it works with audio tracks, or can I change it to another key?
Follow-up Is there some other way I can manipulate the audio track to BIAB tracks which would/should then allow me to change the key?
Any other way of bringing in an mp3 file to allow changing the key?
Thanks.

Welcome to the forum! Are you wanting to transpose the pitch of a MP3 you are importing into Band-in-a-Box (BiaB) or are you wanting to transpose audio created by BiaB?
If you want to transpose MP3 audio you can import the audio into BiaB, assign tempo and key signature information while saving the imported audio as a loop. Band-in-a-Box has to know tempo and key signature of an audio file to transpose.
If you want to transpose Band-in-a-Box generated audio you do that by changing the key signature at the top of the screen.
Jim - this is an imported audio. An mp3 file from my disk, using Audio->Import Audio, so it lands entirely in the audio track. I've tried Transpose->From/To, Semi-tones, and also changing key signature (and yes to "transpose worksheet?" question), all to no avail. Note that I am in BIAB 2012, for what that's worth.
I know that since the entire song is in the single audio track, I can't manipulate separate tracks (drums, piano, solo, etc) but I was hoping I could change the pitch/key of the entire song in one swell foop.

I have BIAB 2012 but I did find Transpose by semitones, but it didn't seem to have any effect.

If you click on the "Help" button at the bottom of the Song Settings dialogue box, you will be taken to information on how to use the audio transpose feature.
I have BIAB 2016 and when I clicked on the above Help button, the following was stated...

You can customize this setting, and even set it to large values like +24 to get the audio tracks transposed up 2 octaves.

The free Audacity http://www.audacityteam.org/ will easily do this. If you keep having problems with BiaB you might want to give it a try.
Me, it's not about how many times you fail, it's about how many times you get back up. Cop, that's not how field sobriety tests work.

I have imported an mp3 file into the audio track. The song is in Eb. I'd like to be able to change that, but can't seem to. It's always in Eb. Is that how it works with audio tracks, or can I change it to another key?
A window opens and I select an audio file to import <OPEN>
The audio file is imported into Biab.
Click on Song Settings Button from the main screen
From the window that opens navigate to the bottom of the screen
Make sure that "Transpose Audio Track by" is checked
select a number +/- 36 semitones
Select OK to exit the Song Settings Menu
Press 'Play' icon and your audio should play transposed up or down the number of semitones you've selected.
You should Solo the Audio Track to only hear your audio without the Biab style generating at this time since the style has no chords, or correct tempo or key signature to sync with.
I did an additional test and found that using the Audio Chord Wizard for tempo map, chord detection and key signature using the Tempmain.wav file, results in the ACW analyzing the audio at the original tempo, key and chords, not the transposed audio...
The semitones have to be reset in order to sync the chord chart with the transposed audio.
However, by doing the project as follows:
Open blank Biab project (creates a New project) Press ACW button Select audio to analyze (demonstration assume the audio is in key of Eb) Process audio through ACW Import analyzed audio into Biab (Key is still Eb ) Press Key Signature button and transpose key up a semitone
Result was Biab tracks and audio file were transposed.
Thanks Charlie. I'll give your suggestions a try and see if I can make it all happen within BIAB. Not sure if it matters, but I'm using BIAB 2012 not 2016, so maybe these are new features that I don't have? At this time, Audacity is making it work, but it's an extra step, so.... always like to cut out the middle man if I can.

For the larger Band-in-a-Box® packages (UltraPAK, UltraPAK+, Audiophile Edition), the hard drive backup copy is available for only $25. This will include a preinstalled and ready to use program, along with your installation files.

Handy flash drive tip: Always try plugging in a USB device the wrong way first? If your flash drive (or other USB plug) doesn't have a symbol to indicate which way is up, look for the side with a seam on the metal connector (it only has a line across one side) - that's the side that either faces down or to the left, depending on your port placement.

Update your Band-in-a-Box® 2024 for Windows for free with build 1111!
With this update, there's more control when saving images from the Print Preview window, we've added defaults to the MultiPicker for sorting and font size, updated printing options, updated RealTracks and other content, and addressed user-reported issues with the StylePicker, MIDI Soloists, key signature changes, and more!
A few excerpts:
"The Tracks view is possibly the single most powerful addition in 2024 and opens up a new way to edit and generate accompaniments. Combined with the new MultiPicker Library Window, it makes BIAB nearly perfect as an 'intelligent' composer/arranger program."
"MIDI SuperTracks partial generation showing six variations – each time the section is generated it can be instantly auditioned, re-generated or backed out to a previous generation – and you can do this with any track type. This is MAJOR! This takes musical experimentation and honing an arrangement to a new level, and faster than ever."
"Band in a Box continues to be an expansive musical tool-set for both novice and experienced musicians to experiment, compose, arrange and mix songs, as well as an extensive educational resource. It is huge, with hundreds of functions, more than any one person is likely to ever use. Yet, so is any DAW that I have used. BIAB can do some things that no DAW does, and this year BIAB has more DAW-like functions than ever."
